The only Canadians I deal with regularly are truck drivers and they are some of the best ambassadors Canada could ever want.

Smart guy!

Which means, of course, they'll completely ignore him.

The Canadians are among the worst of all back-seat drivers: they are incapable of driving at all...unless it's to drive their county into the ground, in a single generation.

Isn't McKenna the ambassador that was blind sided by his PM moments after being given the job saying Canada wouldn't support Missile defense after guarenteeing it would? Felt badly for McKenna when that happened. Seems like a decent guy.

The world changed dramatically for Americans on Sept. 11, and dealing with the shock and fear of the next attack "trumps all other issues and all other relationships," he said.

"As Canadians, we intellectually acknowledge this reality, but we do not comprehend the full depth of the emotional scarring caused by that extraordinary event."

At last someone seems to get it. When you see people jumping out of buildings to land splattered on the sidewalk when terrorists steal your own planes to destroy a massive building it has a way of forever changing you internally. At least it's alters most rational people. moveon.org isn't rational. Our MSM is not rational. the leaders of the Dem Party are not rational. Nor is a Rep Senator that cries on the Senate floor about world opinion. But the majority of Americans DO get it, are still furious, still want vengeance, still want to honor the fallen and still will fight to the death to protect this country and our families whatever it takes.

I suppose telling the Canadians "Mind your manners, our s**t is bigger than you" might be considered a bit rude.

There are "two Canadas," divided into
a "red" rural heartland and a "blue" east. The rural center heartland "red" could join the USA. That would be great.

"In short, a self-righteousness that isn't very flattering," McKenna told The Canadian Press annual dinner, a gathering of journalists and power-brokers.

Canada is blessed by bountiful natural resources (natural gas, timber, rangeland, etc.) and a neighbor who underwrites their security and buys with cash whatever they produce. This frees them to be lazy, inefficient, and selfish. Because they are stupid and ignorant they think that these blessings are of their own making. They are not. Canada as a whole is a disgrace. Yes, there are many good people there. Yes, they were an admirable country as recently as fifty years ago. But we do neither them nor ourselves any favors by denying the obvious. Taken as a whole, Canada is currently a disgrace to humankind.

On the contrary. I think very highly of Canadian who represent the rugged freedom and independence I associate with the great North. It's the traitorous French weenies who seem to whine the loudest and have politically silenced the good and decent Canadian people that we despise.

>>There are up to three million expatriate Canadians living in the U.S. and McKenna said he's looking to marshal them so they can help Ottawa on issues of importance to Canada.

In my experience, those ex-pats aren't too interested in helping the Canadian government. Many of them are here largely because of their great dislike for the Canadian government.

Good find on McKenna's speech! :-)

I'm guessing that in a few days (or soonner) the FULL speech will be posted here on the Canadian Embassy's (Washington) website:

The Ambassador's Speeches

Hopefully some FReeper will be able to post it to this forum....

I actually heard the news of McKenna's speech on CFRB 1010 am yesterday morning and I couldn't believe my ears! Perhaps there is some "sanity" in the "Mr. Dithers" cabinet after all! (God knows Martin has no sanity!)

Interesting article.

"'Although Americans respect us and like us, they do not think about us very much,' he conceded."

I would like to think about them more, and in a less negative way: to achieve this, they'd have to stop sniping at us when we do so much to keep the North American continental mass safe, and other areas of the world known to harbor extremists who want to wipe us off the face of the earth, and they don't.

"The recent move by Americans to have all foreign carriers register their passenger lists if they fly over the U.S. is causing trouble around the world."

I see no problem here. If they are too busy to provide the passenger lists that will assist us in keeping our citizenry alive, they can fly over Canada or Mexico.
