As long as Belichick is running the show they'll be the team to beat.

I actually think the offense will be better this year.

Belichick loves a challenge and the Pats love to be told they can't do it again.

If he has time to throw he can still pick a defense apart.

At least the Vikings have been in the championship round in the past half century.

You are a more knowledgeable Pats fan than I am and I respect your opinion,I was just curious for your picks as their best 5 or so games in the past couple of years, what do you think?

The Raider/criminal connection goes back to the 70s.

I'm aware of the reason why we have that reputation and to me it's rather short sighted. In fact I'll take that a step further...before we moved to l.a., the players took on the reputation you described, after we moved to l.a., the fans took on that reputation. (Admittedly, the "fans" in l.a. were ready for a fight and it didnt matter who you were and I'm beyond happy we dont reside there anymore).

That's why a lot of Raider fans like myself take being called a "criminal", even in jest, so personally. To me it's no different than a conservative being called a fascist. I don't have a criminal record, I obey laws like most everyone else does and this is true with the rest of Raider Nation.

If it seems like I'm blowing this out of proportion, well, so be it. What most of you call gospel truth--the "criminal" Raiders and our fans--I call slander.

No, not so much. I was relaying the original reasoning for folks to call the Raiders criminals. I didn't refer to the fans so don't include me in your slander case. Every town has their rabid fans Oakland is no different than Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York... in that regard. A lot of Raider fans enjoy the "badder than you" persona, but that's as far as it goes IMO.

If you feel offended by someone calling you or your team a "criminal" that's your prerogative. This is the kind of fire that makes football the great sport that it is. I never see basketball or baseball fans get fired up to defend themseves or their team in such a way.

I hope so.

You may have noticed the QB comparisons in this thread.

Even though he statistically slam-dunks most of the rest of the NFL QB's, Daunte rarely gets any credit/respect.

And he's a good guy, in addition to being an incredible athlete.

Some would say Randy Moss made Daunte...I'm thinking we're going to find out this upcoming season that it was the other way around.

Montana had better passing stats than Brady. Montana also didn't have a top ranked defense. The 49ers offense powered the team, not the defense.

Montana is the best pure quarterback I've ever seen, but the Niners did have some pretty good players on the defensive side of the ball in the 80's. Fred Dean, Hacksaw Reynolds, and Ronnie Lott jump to mind. The offense usually managed to break other team's hearts in the last minute or two of the game(Bengals in the SB, the Saints everytime they played, etc.), but their defense wasn't shabby.

That's a tough one. Do you mean the best five games they've played in or their five best performances?

They won their Super Bowls when their defense played at a high level.

Steve Young would have won a few more SB's if his 49er teams had better defenses.

Moss is great (when he wants to be) but Daunte is something special. I think he's the best QB in the NFC.

I was thinking more about the 80's teams with Montana, but the Niners sole SB under Steve Young happened for one reason, and one reason only. Jerry Jones decided he knew more about football than Jimmy Johnson and ran him out of Dallas, replacing him with Barry Switzer, who managed to win a Super Bowl in spite of himself (Bill Cowher completely outcoached him in the '96 Super Bowl, and if it weren't for Neil O'Donnell throwing interceptions left and right, Pittsburgh would have won that game), simply because those Cowboy teams of the early-mid 90's were so loaded.

I'd put him in the top two or three for sure in the NFC, and I actually think Culpepper will be better without the headaches that Moss caused. Prime example of addition by subtraction.

I think all he wants is a better defense so he doesn't have to play shoot out every week.
