I see your point ... but how could they achieve their goals (mass killings) if everyone's staying away from the transit systems after an attack?
.
Those are awsome words. It could not of been stated
any better. Thanks for posting it.
I agree.
Can anyone remember back to the day of the Madrid terror attack and whether we hardened security to the extent we are now? It seems like we are buckling up much tighter right now then after Madrid.
I don't think we have any TM'ers in Oklahoma that I know of
True. It's just the point that they're here and if they're setting up shop in places like Oklahoma, Lord only knows how many are blending in the big cities.
I was actually thinking out loud and wondering if we did. We could use a first hand account from there. I'm wondering how many do live there and what's going on.
Didn't mean to diminish your report, I took it very seriously.
The intelligence community probably thinks they fully understand al Qaida. Their last attacks were similar to this, and nothing happened after them. I wouldn't personally put too much faith in their past actions though. I'd think the chances are low, but if the same thing happened in the U.S. tomorrow/the day after/next week. Think of just how much larger this would be.
I guess the real question is: was this a Madrid type cell, or did these orders come from the top?
If they came from the top, the casualty count (any is too much) seems a little low for their 'spectacular' fantasies.
A key component to a successful operation is not to be detected. National mass transit (particularly rail) is at 'ORANGE'. Furthermore, the eyes of Americans are more attentive, now that the London attack has occured. With all this attention, the chance of a similar attack in the near future is very slim. That said, I think a rail-bombing attack is now a higher potential method than I had earlier considered.
One man stated that he thinks that all Americans should consider themselves "soldiers" in our current fight against terroists and that our part in that fight is to remain vigilent. I don't think that I could be that eloquent on the fly; and found it refreshing that Americans in their daily lives have such spirit.
Remember the second component - terror as well as trying to inflict economic damage. The bombings themselves are not necessarly the goal, but the mean to terrorize the public into submission. They forget that Londoners are steeled after the long terror reign of the IRA.
I didn't take it that way at all. It's just so frustrating that we're dealing with this 4 years after 9/11. I just wish that ALL Americans and Europeans would have stood with President Bush and Tony Blair instead of underming this ongoing effort. If they had full support from the beginning we might not be watching these pictures coming out of London today.
Do you think that there is some action the Adminstration wanted to take, but didn't because of domestic opposition? If so, what?
All good points, Ian.
The first thing I thought of when I heard about the Egyption diplomat being killed was a post (I think it might have been Daleel's cave of darkness) that said something to the effect "...it will start with an assassination".
Anybody remember the assassination post?
Complacency is the big word being reiterated today. I have heard it over and over by the experts as well as the fact that we will be attacked again.
This country is still lax on many things including our ports, nuclear plants and public transportation not to forget the trucking industry. It's way too easy to buy ingredients to make explosives. I heard today that you can buy things in the drug store to make a bomb that cannot be sniffed out by dogs. That was news to me.
Yes I do, but I think they mentioned Musharraf or Mubarak.
I truly hope you're right. I took NJ Transit into NYC this morning and the commuters I observed were reading their papers and sleeping as usual. Most passengers on the train carry a bag or a backpack. I just don't think this type of an attack on the transit system can be avoided, short of checking bags (which would be a nightmare).
FNC reports, Another alarm is going off telling people
to run as fast as they can in London
I just heard that report as well.
Telling Londoners to run as fast as they can from Victoria Station.
