The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Despite the massive federal, state and local law enforcement effort to stop terrorists from entering the United States, there is no strong evidence of how well it is working.

Many experts are concerned that there are plenty of terrorists or sympathizers already in the country who have been here for years. Some are even citizens.

The Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers were the first wave and now the increasing number of arrests seems to signal a second wave of terrorism in South Florida.

I know it was a year or so ago. Were we discussing
this from EOM?

I had to step out & run a few errands...had kids in the car so we were listening to a CD rather than radio. When I left the house an hour ago they were saying 7 blasts, plus or minus one possible suicide bomber on a bus. Now all the news seems to be reporting 4 blasts. Any idea why the discrepancy?

The London attacks bring out some disturbing points.

1. Likely an AQ directed operation with classic timed, coordinated, multiple attacks.

2. It is not certain yet if these were coordinated via Al-Zarqawi in Iraq. Z has promised to spread his terror influence to allies in Europe. In a recent communication to OBL, Z allegedly refers to the initiation of some kind of operation and wants OBL's approval to proceed. If Z has coordinated these attacks, then his influence as the defacto operational leader of AQ has been secured and OBL has become more of a figure head.

3. This is the second attack upon a metro-rail system. This indicated a change in prefered targets. Apparently the choice of this target was bolstered by the success of the attacks in Spain last year. It produces high casualities and terror while the target enviromnent provides concealment to the bombers. This shift in tactics away from car bombs to trains suggests that this may be the method used in a future attack here in the US and Europe.

Now all the news seems to be reporting 4 blasts. Any idea why the discrepancy?

Confusion due to multiple blasts, psychological trauma of repeated explosions... we saw the same here on 9/11. Also, could have one blast reported 2x, from different parts of the subway.

I have been finding times in the 40's on the net, but not sure why the book would have it listed as :51. The author is very knowledgeable, I will have to dig out the 9/11 commission report.

You should pat yourself on the back.

The events in NYC and DC did not begin the morning of 9/11. It began with the high-level assassination in Afghanistan of Ahmed Shah Massoud, leader of the anti-Taliban, anti-AQ resistance on 9/9/01.

From over here, that sounds like a footnote. But after the 9/11 Report, it seems evident the new administration was planning to go after AQ in a way the previous one had not. Massoud was key to the ongoing efforts to eliminate AQ leadership. There was no greater enemy they faced pre-9/11.

You're correct it is from Qa3lah, I'm headed there now to see if it's still up but I did hear from the terrorism person on MSNBC that the posting that went up had an error in quoting the quran - which he felt was unusual.
