DENVER -- On the eve of his graduation, the top cadet at the Air Force Academy sent out a religious-themed e-mail to thousands of fellow cadets, even as the school is grappling with complaints that some evangelical Christians are harassing others at the school.
The Associated Press obtained a copy of the e-mail sent Tuesday by Wing Commander Nicholas Jurewicz to the freshmen, sophomore and junior classes, which is about 3,000 cadets. "Wing commander" is the title held by the top senior at the school in military ranking.
Jurewicz lists his favorite quotations in the message, including several about Jesus. One quotation, "Bear one another's burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ," is a biblical verse.
The academy has been under investigation because of complaints that evangelical Christians have harassed cadets who do not share their faith, in violation of the constitutional separation of church and state.
Cadets have been required to attend religious tolerance seminars, during which they have been reminded that Air Force policy bans the use of official e-mails for personal messages.
"We will look into it and if he violated any Air Force or academy policy we will take appropriate action after we've reviewed it," academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker said.

Hope nobody ever Freeps from work.
Yep--don't send stuff on Jesus, Buddha, PETA, Mohammed, feminism or porn on the doggone official network--and don't punish anyone cuz they don't go to church, the bar, Kerry rally or strip club with the supervisor.
I new I could count on you for a good answer--let the chaplain worry about their souls...
It seems to me, as an Atheist, that only anti-theist bigots would be offended by someone daring to write what he believes. Some are motivated by secular philosophies some by theistic philosophies. So what? Are these bigots demanding that Christians hide their religion? Do they have the guts to come out and say what they really think: "I hate your religion and if I could, I would use the force of law to prevent you from practicing it."
Indeed the Christian Superior Officer would be more likely to rate his subordinants more fairly than say a freaking Muslim would.
If a Muslim cadet graduated as the top cadet, the MSM would be drooling over how wonderful it was that a Muslim had obtained this high position. There'd be articles in Newsweek, possibly even containing some truth. Female reporters would be swooning at their desks, sighing, "Oh, the diversity, the diversity!"
To your children ?
Good point.
Looking for any angle to be oppressed, it appears. Hate to dissapoint you, but the leftist nightmare/wetdream of being marched off to camps by the religious right isn't gonna happen.
It makes for good paranoia fantasies, though.
If I read 'Playboy', as a grown man, can I still fight America's enemies as a Soldier or Airman?
Do I have to be a Christian to kill people?
How about 'did you tell these students you went to church this Easter?' and 'Isn't your review coming up?'
I read the article and it seems to me that he sent out 2 or 3 quotes among others in that e-mail. The e-mail was not particularly religious in nature but it had religious elements. It seems he would have been just fine sending out the e-mail minus the religious content. Yes?
There's a difference between duty and option. And, by the way, I'm not sure that anyone at any time in our history has EVER had to choose between defeating his enemies or spreading Christianity. The English, quite frequently as I recall, did both, perpetually, consistently, and often successfully. As did the Spanish, the French, the Portuguese.
You misunderstand--I am a Christian.
Yes, they fought to expand the Empire of Christendom. Is that the role of our Air Force?
Oh.
Yes, but with the expection that they cannot read Playboy while doing it. Hard to fly and look at the centerfolds at the same time, ya know...
So we're just going to censor everything. Can't agree. Truth can't set you free unless you see it/hear it SOMEwhere. I'd rather have access to ALL of it than none of it, thank you.
While reading Playboy ?
Obviously not, if our two latest "conquests" count. The Air Force, like the other services, however, is doing nothing to suppress Christianity either.
