Sources in Delhi said the recent visit to India of Chinese People’s Liberation Army Chief of Staff General Liang Guangli was aimed at working on an improved protocol described as "confidence building measures" between the two militaries, reports Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.
This is the first visit of a Chinese chief of staff in seven years. It is assumed by intelligence analysts that the Chinese and Indians are developing a protocol to prevent of accidental use of WMDs.
But what if it is more than that?
The warming of relations between China and India, the world's two biggest nations, is giving intelligence analysts in the West nightmares.
India, whose population is expected to surpass China's 1.2 billion some time in the next decade or two, has stopped eyeing Beijing as enemy No. 1.
In one of his meetings earlier this year with a top Indian official, the Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao, is reported to have remarked: "When we shake hands, the whole world will be watching."
Indeed he was right.
Together, the populations of the two giants equals more than a third of all the people on earth.
Without worrying about a threat from India, China is free to consider expansionist policies including, but not limited to, a move against Taiwan.
Separately, both China and India are becoming economic powerhouses. Together, acting in concert, they can make each other stronger – and the leaders of both nations openly acknowledge their preferences for cooperation rather than confrontation in what is being characterized as the dawn of the "Asian Century."
As time gos on and as this real life relationship continues to progress (see the recent article India and China Agree to form Partnership), the actual potential for downside to US economics and foreign policy multiply.

Personally, I think that it's good that India and China are getting along. Maybe the Indians can teach the Chinese a little something about civility and democracy.
What if China and India unite? Let's see...both countries will starve? China will stop eating beef? India will start practicing infanticide (kiiling girl babies)? The results might be staggering.

I cannot believe that Farah really believes that. The Indians are not that stupid.
China and India agree to for Partnership
No one considered the possibility that The Soviets and the Nazis would get together at the outset of World War II. After all, they were considered bitter enemies. But ask the Poles and the Scandinavian countries about the results when they did. Ask what kind of problems it caused our war planners when they did...for over two years as they were allied.
Ultimately, the Nazis implemented their plan, Barbarosa, and attacked the Soviets...and we are very grateful that they did.
Stranger things have happened and this relationship between Inida and China is not just a fictional pipe dream...it is happening right before our eyes and we, the US, need to take direct steps now to ensure that it is offset with an even stronger relationship between India and us, IMHO.
Read the article regarding announcements of a partnership, economic ties, and joint military exercises between the countries. All of these have been announced and are bing implemented now. These things are really happening and do not sound at all like India views them as their principle threat.

How long before China pulls the economic chain and flushes us?
In terms of strategic partnership, "maybe". However, the unrest of Kashmir has not end "yet" while China has also maintained relations with Pakistan. I wonder if Indians will be satisfied with that.
They should do so right away.
If we reverse the thinking, China not being the number one enemy, pray tell who would be number one????
The US???? We took defeats on Asian mainland before in Vietnam and Korea, invade India, hardly.
Russia??? Not even feasible.
Pakistan??? Enemy for sure, number one, no, sheer size dictates that.
China is patiently clearing its rear on the Pacific, from Japan to Australia. One way or another they will neutralize those countries. When that happens, India will rethink their friendship.

There are many, many other articles about recent (last 12 months) announcmentes by both countries covering stronger economic ties, closer political ties, joiunt military exercises, border agreements, etc.
The announcments by the leading diplomats in both countries speak for themselves as do the joint military exercises and the rapidly growing economic ties.
All I am saying si that WE must be much more vigilant and make stronger moves to keep India far way from the Red Chinese sphere of enfluence.
China had made many agreements. Their history says that those agreements are usually worthless. They pay lip service while stabbing their "partners" in the back. If anything, this might lead to a war between China and India, rather than a bonafide parnership.

A partnership between China & India is definitely something to watch closely - could be very troubling - economically and militarily (both are in the nuclear club).

I do not want to see this any more than anyone else...however, I will not say it cannot happen, when it is beginning to happen right before my eyes.
We, the US, need to be much more proactive in keeping it from happening by forging our own closer ties with Inida IMHO.
We need to move more definitvely, IMHO, to make sure that India tilts our way and not towards the ChiComms. That will involve opening more markets, agreements, and trade with them...and much, much less with the ChiComms IMHO, as a start.
Completely concur. What form that vigilance will take, when we are shipping out our manufacturing infrastructure to China and technological expertise to India remains to be seen.
