May 29, 2005 -- Two foreign naval ships arriving in the city for Fleet Week collided off Staten Island yesterday, causing minor damage to both, according to organizers. No injuries were reported. The Jean Bart, a French ship, collided with the Moawin, a Pakistani vessel, off Stapleton Pier, Fleet Week officials said in a news release. The French frigate struck the port side of the Pakistani support ship, which was already moored, the organizers said. There was visible damage across 30 feet of the French vessel's hull, the organizers said. The Pakistani ship was only superficially damaged.

it's almost too easy to make fun of the French

hmmm....
Let me guess, the French captain surrendered in light of the fact that the Pakistani ship damaged his ship more than his ship damaged the Pakistani one?

"There was visible damage across 30 feet of the French vessel's hull."
So it's an improvement!

The French frigate struck the port side of the Pakistani support ship, which was already moored, the organizers said. I have $10 that says the French Captain blamed the Pakistani for being in the way.

The Pakistani Ship should check itself to make sure the French Ship did not give it Herpes.......

I'm a little surprised they let a Pakistani navy ship in NYC - there's gotta be a couple jihadis onbaord who wouldn't mind trying to shell the city - i'm having trouble finding the link, by NY Post also reported this week a Pakistani sailor was arrested for assaulting a 14-year old girl in Central Park

as I read the story, it was a supply ship, which means it was probably lighty armed or completely unarmed....
if they decided to shell the city, it would be an exciting time on their ship in a big big hurry....

my wife is dead set on going to France next summer. I was born in Stuttgart. You think they would have a problem with me waving a German flag from the top of that thing? :)

Instead of surrendering immediately, the French should have sunk with honneur, right there in the harbor. But that would be expecting too much.

Now I can Just Imagine the Harbor Master Police investigating the Harbor Hit-N-Run and writing the Ticket. Telling the Offending Ships' Master he has to go back to Mastering School before his Court date to keep points off his license and prevent his insurance from going up!
All the While the struck vessel's Master is yelling "Whiplash! You'll be hearing from my Lawyer!"
