Initial reports show a turnout of 25%. Last polls before voting began show the No vote leading by 56% to 44%.
UMP speaker
French said many things must chang.
The imobility of fear fo the EU.
French said much change so the EU will move forward faster. (?) The cannons of the EU were not make with the individual citizen in mind. We need to change laws so that jobs are made and that corporations do not leave our shores. We can not hide behind our little finger to reality.
A new program must be made that is bold and pragmatic.
This is a lost opportunity today.
Good news ~ Bump!
Thes UMP guy is just whining and demanding...
in a nutshell the voters are to blame.
Now Jean-Marie Le Pen is up. I'm sure he's thoroughly enjoying himself!
le Penn is talking
people of france put france first.
Le Penn is calling for new government elections tommorrow..
One greek comentator said that it would not be surprising for the EU to delay or deny Turkey's EU membership campaign.
Yep---since George Bush gave a hugh speech advocating the admittance of Turkey into the EU....
IT IS ALL GEORGE BUSHS FAULT!!!!
Baghdad Broadcasting Corp (BBC):
"However, many experts say the failure of the constitution would cause a grave crisis within the union, leaving it divided, confused and condemned to a period of stagnation.
So....nothing will change, then!
Jean Pierre Raffarin (PM) to likely resign this week.
They were never going to let Turkey in. It was just an empty promise to get them to turn on the US in the buildup to Iraq.
What the EU is striving for is a heavily regulated free market eurocracy.
The EU comentary is basically trying to spin the figures.
44% of french voters support the EU constitution and they can not be ignored.
Will re-evaluation the situation.
The comentators are all ignoring the anger of the french farmers at the stagnation of farm subsidies.
Gosh, you mean Europe has commentators that "spin" election results?
Wow---what a shame, we don't have anyone that spins here!!
/sarcasm-ON
There is that side of the EU. But, aren't trade restrictions actually increased under the EU. For example, I remember reading about how the EU was forcing cheese makers to stop calling a certain cheese by its French name (I can't remember which) since it wasn't made in that region? It seems to me that the EU is taking away certain restrictions but imposing many restrictions on others.
Also, sadly some Americans who follow EU issues closely but through hackneed news sources like talk radio are influenced by End Time fundamentalist theories that the EU will be the land of the Anti-Christ so it also distorts their view of the real situation/issues faced by the EU.
One greek comentator is saying that this should have been a europe wide vote on the exact same day done by all citizens of europe. THAT would have been a true european vote.
Other comentator is saying that europe must be a collection of treaties and agreements. He also said the EU must be DIPLOMATICALLY as one.
One EU, One UN seat?
One UN seat would be the logical extension.
But I would think that would require Britain to adopt the euro.
My it has been a very good day! Now the Dutch vote June 1!
Thanks for all the pings Sara!
