You can't live on $8 an hour unless you live in a bad part of town where there are lots of drug dealing and drive by shootings.

You live a very sheltered life, don't you? I was speaking specifically to the region I live in - and I clearly stated that.

10 applicants for every position open, you say? That's because ten better paying jobs have been lost by local companies who have been forced to close their doors or move south of the border.

Why have those local companies been forced to close their doors or move south of the border? Please look in the mirror while you are rereading your posts on this thread - you will get a better picture of the problem.

When exactly did you go insane?

Now you are getting really down and dirty. You get my creep of the year award.

Who hurt you so bad you live this life of unmitigated anger? Are you John Kerry?

Somebody close and personal. I'm mostly over my anger, but when a bunch of insensitive people who only care about themselves and their lives and the hell with all the losers out there.

No, if I were John Kerry, I'd be signing my 180. I'd publish my employment records but they probably burned in a fire or somebody flushed them down a toilet.

You people can get really ugly when somebody refuses to follow the party line around here.

It's not a feeling Gabz, it's the truth. Idiots will always be amongst us! lol

What a shame that I have to agree with you on that.

Everything you have posted tonight just proves that anyone with the 'get-up-and-go' can make it, regardless of how they start out. And it also goes for people that decide they like their job at Walmart.

No, you started ugly with your "down with capitalism" tour and your ridiculous generalizations based only on your pitiful life.

Thus you project your hatred, your insecurities, and your bitterness on everyone and everything else.

Just go back and read the ridiculous statements you've posted like because there are 10 people applying for one job somewhere means 10 jobs were lost due to evil capitalism.

Anyone that thinks like that is basically insane since you see your outcome regardless of input. You just can't get over something and thus regard everything in terms of that loss or hurt or anger.

Frankly, you need professional help. I think psychology is bogus but it actually might do you some good. Or was I thinking chiropractor?

I have no problem with you not "towing the line", as I myself am often at odds with posts on FR. My problem with you is that you refuse to address the illogic of your statements and bury your head as soon as you're presented with proof that you are wrong.

I'm starting to think this total sicko is living in the Ukraine or is definately from some kind of Russian decendants.

I live in the midwest and am the daughter of a civil engineer who served his country in WWII. It must be my mutt pedigree. Scots Irish, English, a little German thrown in for bad measure. Capitalist to the bones. It's in my blood. I defend it to my dem acquaintances and relatives. But I don't defend people getting s*** on who have to drag out in the cold so you (and I) can have our Big Breakfast in the morning. It's probably Starbucks for the likes of you. I love their Java Chip ice cream but have yet to walk in one of their places.

Capitalism has run amok in this country, and people are being badly hurt. If worrying about what is probably becoming of this country makes me a sicko, I don't know what that makes you.

And I'm not so insane as to think every business checks packages. Some don't want to pay an extra employee to do that or just don't give a s*** who steals what because when the inventory comes up short, it gets written off on the credit side of the balance sheet and everybody is happy except the people who can't make ends meet and even though they work as many hours as you do, maybe more, get threatened to have their electricity and phone shut off on a regular basis. Some of them don't have phones.

Actually, Sears was becoming a dinosaur until it looked at itself and did a complete makeover. Now they are VERY dynamic and growing. Third largest retailer now, with the merger with K-Mart; fifth prior to that...

If I'd realized you were a girl I would have been easier on you (guys tend to get nastier about politics). That said though, I don't see how you can acknowledge that a $100 an hour minimum wage would hurt those it's supposed to help, but not acknowledge the exact same scenario for a $17 hour minimum wage.
You're very compassionate, but aren't thinking logically.

You live a very sheltered life, don't you?

I certainly did not during my working years. Now I do, yes, but I know what it is like out there because I see what my grown grandchildren are facing almost every day.

When I was 17 and a senior in high school my mom was babysitting for a couple. He was the western Arkansas regional manager for Wal-Mart that also included Louisiana.

I was working on getting into the the Air Force Academy (you have to get a Congressional appointment and it's not easy) and evenutally got an appointment to the Naval Academy. I didn't get in.

So I shifted to my second choice of going to the University of Arkansas. Tuition back then was $235 a semester. One day the father came to pick up his kids and he and I were talking. He said to me, "forget the U of A, come work for me and I'll train you and I promise in a few years you'll be doing well. Wal-Mart is growing big".

Well, my mom wouldn't accept that because I was the first one in the entire family in history to go to an actual college. Had I not went and took him up on his offer I'm sure I'd be incredibly rich today. He went on to the upper executive levels of the company. He and his wife and now grown with kids daughters are still very good friends to this day.

But we make choices. I've made a lot of bonehead ones along the way. I've quit jobs others that are whining on this thread would die for on simple principle. Did I suffer sometimes. Sure. I've been up and down over my 45 young years.

But I never asked for a handout, never whined about the evils of the system (oh, I could complain about the inequities of those treated differently that weren't up to my level, but that's one reason I left those jobs) or demanded some kind of compensation from others earnings.

The thing that really, really pisses me off is that these whiners actually think they are in some kind of unique circumstance and everyone else has it made only based on where they are now, what they do, or how much they make.

None of this is carved in stone. They totally ignore the individual and their standing. Not everyone making $8 is suffering. Not everyone making $20 is sitting on easy street. Hell, listen to the union idiots. They make $25-40 an hour making cars in Detroit and after 25 years have nothing to show for it and then demand help if a factory closes.

This is the mindset of the left and the peasant mentality brought over here from the old European countries that even today are trying to escape. It's the mindset to a point the left even write it into their scripts. Take the first Spiderman movie. Uncle Ben is portrayed as a poor slob that was the CHIEF ELECTRICIAN at a manufacturing plant for 30 YEARS but never paid off his mortgage or had one dime in savings.

Now, what mentality thinks like this? How could an electrician even in the day it was a vocation and not a required degreed job not get paid enough to at least pay off a mortgage on a home bought originally in the 1950's? It's impossible unless he was horribly bad at finances or drank or gambled, etc.

Yet it's there in our "pop culture". And here we still see it amongst people with computers whining about making ends meet.

You sometimes just have to shake your head. Or laugh. I can't decide.

ME: What are you talking about? No one is forced to work for a wage they are not happy with.

YOU: Oh yes they are if they want to stay alive in this country.

I ask again, what are you talking about? You apparently missed the operative word "FORCED" in my comment.

If you don't like the wage offered by an employer find another one........or take that job and get a second one that will allow you your arbitrary "living wage."

It is apparent that you have never been on the side of the desk that makes wage decisions or signs the checks.

I don't want to talk to any of you any more tonight as I have to go to bed. Don't do me any favors by going easy on me. I know when I'm licked. The whole place practically ganged up on me and called me things I wouldn't even call a Democrat. I've taken a real beating on this one, but will fight on another day because some of my loved ones are trapped in situations I can't get them out of. Those are my dearest ones you are looking down your imperious noses at.

I know... same here! It's like when you've totally outmatched someone in chess and you get to keep chasing his King around with your Rooks, Bishops, and Queen.

You've got that right.

I have a bad habit of reading all the posts as I'm going through a thread and so it takes me a bit longer..........and of course thedogs wanted out, and the one wanted to be fed...........so I get behind. LOL!!! I know TMI!

You just don't get it do you? People make bad choices. But you want those choices paid by others. If you can't pay for your phone, then why should I care?

Capitalism run amok? Hell, I hope so! It keeps people employed.

And I have some really bad news for you...the people that own my hotel are dye-in-the-wool liberal Democrat idiots also.

But they sure don't mind making millions off tobacco, insurance, oil and gas pipelines, and other of those "evil" businesses. I laugh at their hypocrisy.

But at least we have you to be yet another poster child for the "bleeding heart liberal".

P.S. What about the businesses that don't have people with packages? Are you obsessed with packages?

Eliminating federal assistance would also help cut down on illegal immigration!

"Capitalism run amok? Hell, I hope so! It keeps people employed."

Exactly. Doesn't she realize that if you set the minimum wage at $17... all of those people making $6 an hour would simply be unemployed and now making $0 an hour? A typical Democrat, thinking with her heart instead of her brain.

300/wkx50wks/year=$15,000 a year.

No, I expect you don't know anyone who could live on that. But most people you know don't know how to live cheaply.

I don't expect that you shop at the 99 cent store either.
