Do you include Rinos like Spector, who was fully supported over a conservative like Pat Toomey by both Bush and Santorum in last year's Primary?

Personally I don't like Spector much at all - However, sometimes geographic politics is going to come into play! (that is the reality). We aren't going to get elected a strong conservative in the NE United States for example. So we are better off getting a RHINO then a DEM in there (IMO).

However, there are clear States where RHINO exist that we can take them out and still clearly win in the General election (which is the bottom line!) - PA, may not be a good case for this (thus, we get Spector).

However, both Hagel and McCain are in States that we can beat them in the primaries and still clearly win in the General election Vs a DEM - (both OH senators are other examples......L. Graham (SC) is another classic example.

So in certain States like PA and the NE we might have to take a RHINO or two....but we don't need in many other States.

It is called simply dealing with the reality of the World. Where one has to make decisions based of actual alternatives...not pie in the sky wishes.

Actually, what the modern Congress is allowed to do is NOT a "real filibuster" a la Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington . This is a strange perversion of that hallowed tradition, during which a given congressperson would literally have to talk for hours on end.

This "I invoke the filibuster" nonsense has to go. If a given congressperson feels so strongly about an issue, let him/her read the freaking phone book into the record, eventually THOSE filibusters end and the voting begins. Not so with this modern "filibuster". The wimpy freaks we have in Washington need to get their beauty sleep and shouldn't have to listen their colleague spew nonsense or actually seek to influence their votes, goodness knows!!

Invoke the "Constituional Option" for ALL Presidential nominees. They ALL deserve an up or down vote, not this c*@p!!!

Almost right. Previous Senate rules were for no 'dual tracking' and two-thirds of those Senators present and voting. When the Democrats made the cloture rule switch to three-fifths (using the nuclear option in 1975) it was changed to three-fifths of all elected Senators. They also changed tha ability to have imediate cloture voting, you have to pre-schedule them so everyone has ample warning of the date/time of the proposed cloture vote. In the old 'get the cots' filibuster days as soon as they had the floor votes, they voted...

The problem is that GOP politicians have a very strong tendency to articulate mushy positions that are absolutely indefensible. If the Democrats propose some new $10B/year program that is a just plain Bad Idea, Republicans need to oppose it outright, rather than "compromise" for a $5B/year version.

I'm not really sure what you're referring to. If you're talking about pork, then true, but both sides are equally responsible. The Dems don't object to GOP pork, either.
That's a different issue than philosophical positions,

The best Frist can do now, and what he should do now, is to have some of those Dwarves break the other "spirit" of that "deal" and unlease the Constitutional Option in the cases of ambassadors (heck, I'd go for everything BUT judicial nominees).

It can be done too -- Dr. Coburn here in OK got in the race late but he ignited the grassroots to support him and he beat the establishment candidate in the primary and the Hillary candidate in the general election. He managed to get the grassroots out in large numbers here in the State -- we worked hard and donated money. Senator Allen from NRSC was also a huge help who many of are supporting in 2008 after his awesome speech at our OK Convention.

Takes an effort to elect conservatives against an establishment candidate but a lot of people in the primary tend to be conservative that always vote and it can be done. If I was a conservative running in another State, I would be asking the Coburn folks how it was done. It was textbook how the Conservatives turned out in big numbers to support him.

Too bad Voinovich is safe for another 5 years; it sounds like he needs a primary challenger.

Right..........some people change their screen names for legitimate reasons, but doing it more than once makes you highly suspect.

And you'd think they'd understand that there are people on this forum smart enough to know that they've said, "Because of this, I'll never vote Republican again!" 487 times in the past 3 years! :o)

If you back up a few steps they can be highly amusing......

We didn't get any help last time, and Pat Toomey got a late start. We're ready this time, and, if this keeps up in the Senate, we'll be highly motivated!

We sure did -- I found a newer one of mine recently and it is being added to now! :) Someone saying they would vote for Hillary definitely puts them on the suspect list! Wish I could find the one from 2000 -- that was lengthy!

I mentioned Rush because he's the only one who insists that moderates can't decide anything on their own. Your post said the same thing.
You say that you belong to the "majority" party, and I have to wonder which one that is. Nationally, about 34% are Dems, 32% are GOP, and the rest are Independents.

At the time you are not thinking -- you are just being nosey about what is going on with the weather. With an F-5 and no one killed -- that's really lucky because those are totally nasty tornadoes.

Right, it was 2000 election's list that was so dang long. I came across the one we had for Arnold and the recall... and you know what? Most of the screwballs are ZOT.
