"Yes, GarySpFc, you are exactly right. And that is a terrifying thing - that 45 percent of the Senate is made up of such lying, unprincipled, hypocritical weasels who have no interest in the welfare of the country."

there are people on the other side of the political spectrum who share your sentiments for the opposition. Amazing, eh?

Give them the documents they requested, then let the committee move ahead.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Those are highly classified with names of foreign nationals who have been very helpful to the USA. The Dems know this. If the Dems got hold of these files, many people's lives would be endangered for, no doubt, their names would be leaked.

The number of self-aggrandizing know-it-alls on this thread is equally amazing.

Oh, it's only you.

My understanding is that it takes 3/5 of the entire membership of the Senate regardless of how many members are present.

that's the changed fillibuster rules. Prior senate rules requred 3/5 of however many were present at any one time and thus the 'pull out the cots & sleep on the floor' style fillibusters; DemoncRATs decided they wanted their cake & eat it too so they switched the rules to allow the new 'stay at home & do nothing' form of fillibuster.

"FRIST JUST VOTED NO"

I think that he did that because senate rules state that the nominee can be reintroduced by a member who voted on the losing side.

If I remember correctly, Bob Dole voted against the balanced budget amendment to allow for the opportunity to reintroduce it. It's just a guess on my part.

As usual, the GOP got 'duped'.

There was no "duping." The people who run the Republican Party knew exactly what they were getting in Specter, and they simply didn't care. They are not as concerned with ideology as you and I.

Good thing your posts have a style to them, what with your font and your avatar, or I would have thought it was you.

How do you change your font anyway?

My understanding is that it takes 3/5 of the entire membership of the Senate regardless of how many members are present. That's why a crapload of RATs can go home during a filibuster and the GOP can't break the filibuster with their 55 votes.

Either way I'm NOT looking foreward to DUmmies gloating on Sunday morning.

My new attitude is we are the "tortoise" and the "hare" is being steamrolled, in slow, er very slow motion.

This is not all played out yet but if the votes really weren't there to re-Constitutionalize the confirmation process it's truly sad.

Frist got screwed twice this week. First with the Smurf 14, then today he thought he had a deal with Dingy Harry, Harry renigged on it. And dems are saying this is NOT a filibuster which is most one of the more intresting lies in recent political history. If Frist does not use the Nuke option here, his plan to run in 2008 is toast!

I am always most amused by people who sit at computers and accuse the President of lacking courage (usually in crasser terminology).

When's the last time you had a grenade thrown at you during a public speech because you stood up against evil in the world?

Last week? Last month? Ever?

Its an opinion. Sure McCaine is trying to gain control of the Senate leadership. However, the Republicans won the Presidency, gained in both Houses. It was a big won in November. If President Bush wanted the filibuster to end, he has the clout to do it. So why is President Bush tolerating the Dems? He needs the Dems to pass his Social Security reforms. Also, yesterday or the day before, President Bush visited Upstate New York to win support for his Social Security reform.

Oh my goodness---who'd athunk it? Their good new best RAT friends have betrayed Lindsey Graham and John McCain. Or have they? Was this part of a side deal? Wonder what the gang of 7 back stabbing Republicans will do now to placate them. They sure don't concern themselves with the Republican base. I would remind McCain etal that hell hath no fury like spurned base voters.

The longer the Dems filibuster Bolton the better. The UN is a worthless organization, so we don't need anyone to represent us there. And the Dems are only making people mad at them by filibustering everything.
