I don't quite understand the consternation here regarding the Bolton situation. The Democrats say the documents they requested from the State Dept regarding Bolton were not made available to them. Give them the documents they requested, then let the committee move ahead.

The next few hours or days will tell us who really runs the Senate. Harry Reid and the Democrats or John McCain* and the Republican MAJORITY.

*McCain usurped Frist's leadership with the help of the "Quisling 7".

If McLame tries to claim his deal is only for judges, he should be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Filibustering any kind of executive appointment should is Constitutionally prohibited.

I have a question: have Republicans ever used the filibuster tactic to stall debate, or is this a purely Democrat method?

I believe both the Brady Act and Assault Weapons Ban were successfully filibustered, but someone let them get re-introduced by "unanimous" consent when he was supposed to be guarding the fort for the Republicans. Probably didn't help his 1996 presidential run.

How is this for a nightmare scenario? Frist retires in 2006 and the Republicans vote in John McCain as the new Senate Majority Leader. After introducing legislation abolishing what remains of the 1st Amendment, Sen. McCain then turns to his pet project of implementing the Kyoto Accords.....

Frist isn't a part of any deal.

Also, if filibustering judicial nominees is (rightly) considered improper, that goes double for executive branch nominees. The judiciary is an independent branch of government. Executive nominees serve under the President, in the branch of government he is responsible for. He should have an even greater prerogative to have his nominees voted on.

The GOP is not the party of losers. It is mostly made up of people who are decent, law abiding, trustworthy and kind. Sometimes it's hard for decent people to believe that others would stab them in the back. I think that even though we have lost the battle we will win the war. Never, never, never give up.

Oh, PhiKap.......facts don't matter when you get to yell and scream about how rotten Republicans are on the Internet.

They probably really think that Frist voted 'No' because he chickened out (and don't care about why he really did). Duhhh......

If they want to call filibuster, make them get up to the podium and start talking. Bring in the cots and order some Chinese takeout. Force them to actually do it.

Yes, let's see if they can break Senator Thurmond's record.

Yes, GarySpFc, you are exactly right. And that is a terrifying thing - that 45 percent of the Senate is made up of such lying, unprincipled, hypocritical weasels who have no interest in the welfare of the country.
