Bolton fails to get the 60 votes to invoke cloture. Dem filbuster is on.
This makes my day!
PLEASE RECESS APPOINT JOHN BOLTON ON MEMORIAL DAY.
REPEAT EVERY YEAR UNTIL YOU LEAVE OFFICE.
DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO RESUBMIT FOR CONFIRMATION
END OF STORY.
I'm so glad you said that to Fishtalk... geesh.. get a grip already. Hillary? That's a good way to get zotted right outa here.
"GOP as usual loses!!"
They are the party of losers. What do you expect?
I don't quite understand the consternation here regarding the Bolton situation. The Democrats say the documents they requested from the State Dept regarding Bolton were not made available to them. Give them the documents they requested, then let the committee move ahead.
Actually...straightening my skirt and blouse...I do.
You don't think they'll believe me?
The Dims are evil lying monsters.
If McLame tries to claim his deal is only for judges, he should be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Filibustering any kind of executive appointment should is Constitutionally prohibited.
I believe both the Brady Act and Assault Weapons Ban were successfully filibustered, but someone let them get re-introduced by "unanimous" consent when he was supposed to be guarding the fort for the Republicans. Probably didn't help his 1996 presidential run.
How is this for a nightmare scenario? Frist retires in 2006 and the Republicans vote in John McCain as the new Senate Majority Leader. After introducing legislation abolishing what remains of the 1st Amendment, Sen. McCain then turns to his pet project of implementing the Kyoto Accords.....
Frist isn't a part of any deal.
>>Wonder how McCain/Graham and the others feel now!<<
Hey, McLame/Graham, etal are probably IN AGREEMENT with the Rats!
Also, if filibustering judicial nominees is (rightly) considered improper, that goes double for executive branch nominees. The judiciary is an independent branch of government. Executive nominees serve under the President, in the branch of government he is responsible for. He should have an even greater prerogative to have his nominees voted on.
Didn't the deal only include judges?

The GOP is not the party of losers. It is mostly made up of people who are decent, law abiding, trustworthy and kind. Sometimes it's hard for decent people to believe that others would stab them in the back. I think that even though we have lost the battle we will win the war. Never, never, never give up.
They probably really think that Frist voted 'No' because he chickened out (and don't care about why he really did). Duhhh......
Yes, let's see if they can break Senator Thurmond's record.
