It was just a throw-away line on a throw-away filler piece. Yet in its own way it was deeply revealing of the liberal mindset.
At the end of its top-of-the-hour news recap, Today ran a piece about a Florida family that had found a small alligator lounging in its backyard swimming pool. Today aired footage of authorities roping and removing the reptile.
Katie then murmured "gee, I hope it will be released and be OK," with Matt Lauer ominously informing Katie that things sometimes don't work out too well for the alligator in such situations.
So there it was. Katie's crocodile tears for . . . a crocodile. OK, an alligator, but who's counting?
Yet another example of the liberal mindset at work. From snail darters to spotted owls to baby seals to alligators, liberal hearts bleed at the thought of any harm being done to animals.
But 40 million and counting babies aborted since Roe v. Wade? Hey, when's the next march where we can "celebrate a woman's right to choose"? Starving and dehydrating Terri Schiavo to death? Hey, her life wasn't meaningful anyhow.
This erases any positives that you have attempted to present.
n00bs acting like b00bs.
They won't be kicked off, they will leave on their own.
The n00bs that have thin skins and are too lazy to to any research but continue to shoot off their mouths soon tire of FR because people rightfully treat them like trolls.
When a 'newbie' disagrees with a 'regular', he get's called a troll, then come the troll pictures and next thing you know that person has been 'removed'. Disagreeing with someone is 'baiting' that person.
I saw it several times during the 'Schiavo' debate and that is why I waited so long to join. My viewpoints contrasted with several people here and I saw no reason to join in that mess.
Somehow, a story about a baby aliigator and Katie Couric is just not worth it to me. There are more interesting articles to discuss.
OTOH, there's a not very funny side to this. This state is infested with gators - the damned things are everywhere. One of the other engineers at my office did a field visit at a nearby lake to look at some stuff. He spotted 80 alligators after walking less than a mile along the shore (this is a big lake, 5,000 acres or so).
With all the gators and all the people coming in, showdowns are inevitable, especially when people start feeding the gators. That's illegal, but they do it anyway.
Once they get fed, they lose their fear of humans and see them as a food source, and then they become a serious menace and usually end up being destroyed, hopefully before they've killed someone. You can't tame these things like you do dogs and cats.
Yes, she is entitled to her personal views.
She is not, however, to pass off her personal views as objective truth or even "news". This, IMHO, is where the MSM goes off the tracks. Finally, the Today Show is paying the price for that behavior with "plunging" ratings. (remember, governs - SOP now is to say that the Today show's ratings are "plunging"?! LOL)
Ugh! Probably.
Clearly, you are a newbie. Governs has been keeping an eye on the Today Show so the rest of us don't have to suffer through it. He's been making these posts for a long time. He lets us know what the MSM vis a vis the Today Show is up to.
Know your enemy!
Please explain why, after questioning the existence of evidence that Couric is pro-choice, you declined to view rather clear-cut evidence of just that?
Thanks, Artist. I think you've made a prima facie case for Couric's pro-choice views. Oddly, after demanding proof thereof, softwarecreator has so far refused to review it!
If this is something you *wonder* about, I'm not sure that anyone can help you see.
Everyone keeps showing 'proof' of her bias when she is OFF the air. no one has shown proof of this DURING a show.
You mentioned she had more concern for this than Terri Schiavo ... what did she do for you to say this. You offered NO proof ... show me direct quotes or actions and I could agree with you.
My point is this:
It was a story about a baby alligator being taken from a pond and she showed concern for it. What should she have said "look at that lil' gator, I hope they chop it up into little pieces and sprinkle in the 'glades'"? Or should she have said ... "They killed Terri, so let's waste the ugly varmint". Maybe something like ... "Sure they kill unborn babies, yet they let this ugly thing live" would have been more appropriate?
That is what my response was about ... not what you did yesterday or whether you are a 'watchdog' for the media. That stuff is all great and I will probably look into your past threads to see what else you've done ... most of which is probably very informative. But what should she have done differently in this story to show her concern for Terri and abortion?
I am asking about a particular story, nothing more.
What else should she have said during this ONE story to show affection for unborn fetuses?
What am I not seeing?
Oh, puh-leeze! It happens from time to time, but not with the regularity that you both imply.
I've been here since just after the inception of FR, and the very difficult job that the moderators do is handled exceptionally well.
Pre-moderator, it was pretty wild and woolly around here, I'll tell you that much. There is a very real threat of "trolls" and "disruptors" ruining a board and so fogging the facts in various threads that the board becomes worthless. It has been tried here numerous times.
I've seen your posts before, softwarecreator, so I didn't come down on you as a troll. I did feel that you needed to be educated on glgb's Couric expertise, though. The $15 Million Dollar Woman still influences millions of Americans daily (though her ratings are declining precipitously - LOL!) and she needs to be watched and cross-checked into the boards for the smallest reason.
I feel that you are moving the goal posts. When I wrote that I felt I had made the case that Couric is pro-choice, you asked "how?"
When a number of fellow FReepers went to the time and trouble of providing links to material demonstrating Couric's pro-choice position, you chose to ignore it.
Are you now willing to concede that there is strong evidence that Couric is pro-choice?
If so, do you not see the moral inconsistency in lamenting the possible mistreatment of an alligator while "celebrating" a woman's right to end the life of an unborn baby?
I can NOT stand the MSM and that is why I no longer watch them. It's ALL left wing propoganda and lies, we all know this.
But why does EVERY single freakin' story have to involve Terri Schiavo???
Can't there even be a story about a baby alligator without invoking the sacred name of TS???
What you're not seeing is this: How many of the other morning shows covered this, let alone with a tear in their eye about it?
I'm sure La Couric and Mattie exert some sort of editorial control over their newsreading - and determining what gets commented on or what gets passed over in silence is a great deal of what passes for "news" in this country.
glgb was right to call her on her Greenie BS.
