A rise in diseases such as whooping cough, tuberculosis, malaria, measles and even leprosy are creating public health concerns and could hit hospitals and health care systems already financially burdened by indigent illegals flooding emergency rooms and urgent care centers.

A conservative wants secure borders, a strong dollar, a balanced budget, economic self sufficiency, an actual absolute decrease in federal spending and laws/control, not getting involved in foreign wars, gun control laws to be repealed, etc. We didn't elect a conservative. Bush has carried out every liberal program that Clinton would have been skewered for proposing.
As I recall, the only real conservative running was Michael Peroutka, and the message he was trying to get out was almost eradicated by the media.

...for crying out loud, what does the Republican Party think it's doing? The Republican party seems to be fragmenting. On the up side, Rep.'s Tom Tancredo, Jay Hayworth & Dana Rohrabacher are Republicans and have been speaking out against mass illegal immigration for some time. Now Tancredo's Immigration Reform Caucus has about 70 members, and Tancredo and 9 others are calling for 36,000 troops on the border.
On the down side, Bush seems to be in bed with Fox on the illegal immigration-open borders issue and seems to want an endless supply of millions of low-wage illegal Mexicans to satisfy big business and others who illegally hire them, homeland security be da**ed. I am so disgusted with Bush that I have changed my voter registration from Republican Party to Constitution Party, and notified the GOP to stop asking me for money.
36,000 troops on our border would really start slowing this invasion down, then those illegals who come to the attention of the authorities should be deported immediately, with no "ticket to run".
The Minuteman Project plans to put the spotlight on employers illegally hiring illegal aliens.
Start phasing down all the welfare give-away of taxpayers money to illegals.

"The federal government reports that while TB is on the decline nationally, Hispanics are the most-likely ethnic group to have the disease, and high TB rates in Mexican border areas are a big concern."
There was a case of TB recently confirmed at the Texas State Technical College in Harlingen.

Yesterday a baby died from the whooping cough in Albuquerque, NM. It was too young to give any vaccinations yet.

I am so disgusted with Bush that I have changed my voter registration from Republican Party to Constitution Party, and notified the GOP to stop asking me for money. I did the same thing a couple of years ago when I realized what we had elected in 2000. I send the GOP beg letters back, writing "ask Mexico for money" in bold.

Gee whiz that's a "Well Duh!" and "We told you so!" immigration problem but would they listen? "Noooooooooo!"

Another reason to stop illegal immigration altogether, so the legal immigrants can be properly screened. In the early 1900's, Ellis Island was used for screening immigrants for both physical and mental afflications. Illegals unfairly bypass both these screenings and background checks.
Found this on the Ellis Island website on the physical screenings:
During line inspection, those immigrants who appeared sick or were suffering from a contagious disease were marked with blue chalk and detained for further medical examination. The sick were taken to Ellis Island Hospital for observation and care, and once recovered, could proceed with their legal inspection. Those with incurable or disabling ailments, however, were excluded and returned to their port of departure at the expense of the steamship line on which they arrived. In an attempt to discourage steamship companies from transporting ill, disabled, or impoverished passengers, an immigration law of 1903 imposed a hundred dollar fine for every excluded passenger.
And on the mental screenings:
Those suspected of having feeble minds were chalked with an X, and along with those marked for physical ailments, about nine out of every hundred immigrants were detained for mental examination and further questioning. Usually this consisted of standard intelligence tests in which immigrants were asked to solve simple arithmetic problems, count backwards from twenty, or complete a puzzle.
So, way back when we did have standards. The physically and mentally afflicted were not allowed in. Today, anyone can mosey across the border, spreading disease, crime, and a lack of appreciation for this country.

Our so-called "leaders" are allowing the importation of poverty, disease, ignorance and dependence.
American citizens are asking why, are demanding an explanation. We are outraged, yet we are being ignored. The cowards who are supposed to be "reporters" are not even asking these questions.
The fish is rotting from the head down.
As I and others have asked thousands of times, "President Bush, why are you allowing this invasion?". No reply, ever.

I send the GOP beg letters back, writing "ask Mexico for money" in bold.I do the same thing. Sometimes, though I tell them to stop asking ME for money; get it from the illegal aliens instead. Or I tell them I'm going to send money to Tancredo or the Minuteman Project instead. I actually look forward to getting those beg letters now.

Mrs. HJ went to the web site to trace her family's arrival here from Sicily. On the manifest she found, one of the six children traveling with grandmother's family, the youngest - a 4-yr-old - was returned to Sicily because of disease. The rest of the family stayed here in the US.
Pause.
A four year old child was returned to Italy alone because of disease. Yeah, there were standards alright. Maybe not fair, but effective. (I have mixed feelings, because I care about individuals, but I guess that was the right thing to do then. It's probably still right.)

SO many illegals...so little concern from Washington..
I'm beginning to believe that our outrage begins and end on this forum..Bush could not care less.

In searching around
ellisisland.com about how immigration was handled in the old days, it says that those immigrants that had treatable contagious diseases were quarantined and treated and when cured, released into the U.S. Only those that were not curable were returned. It may not seem fair to not allow a 4 year old to enter the U.S., but lives of Americans that may have contracted whatever she had may have been saved because of it.
Wish our current administration cared that much about us!

Upper eschelon government on both sides are ignoring the problem. If you'll recall the current mess began with the shift in immigration from Europe and skilled people to developing nations who offer little to an advanced society. For that, you may thank drunken Kennedy's Immigration bill passed in the 1960's. The torrent we now are starting to stagger under didn't begin in 2000 with Mr. Bush. It began in 1992 with the all the stops pulled out by the krinton administration looking for voters and, of course, new and insidious ways of undermining our nation. Oh yeah, I agree that there will be hell to pay if something isn't done before too long.

My refusing to give the GOP any more money has caused them to double up on their efforts to bug me. I've gotten about 2 requests a month! I now have a Word document that I just print out each time and include in their envelope:
Dear [include name here]
I will not be supporting the Republican Party any more, either financially or with my vote, until you start demanding that the already existing illegal immigration laws be enforced.
I am, instead, sending any money I would have contributed to you to the Minutemen Project. They are the patriots who have the courage and conviction to do what our current administration refuses to do.
Sincerely,
Serenissima Venezia
ps. And I am waiting for President Bush to issue a formal apology to the Minutemen for calling these modern-day heroes 'vigilantes'.

We didn't elect a conservative. Bush has carried out every liberal program that Clinton would have been skewered for proposing. I contend that we would have been better off with a democrat as president, that way, the republicans in congress would be fighting whatever the president does, instead of cooperating in trillion dollar deficits and other liberal non conservative misguided affairs.
