Conservative groups that spent millions of dollars preparing for a Senate fight over the use of the filibuster to block votes on President Bush's judicial nominees reacted with outrage Monday night at a compromise that averted the showdown.
'Unfortunately, 14 senators are allowed to speak for all of America, and they are able to pick and choose the nominees they find acceptable, said Lanier Swann, director of government relations for Concerned Women for America.
She predicted that senators from both sides of the aisle would face political fallout from the issue.
The Reverend Louis P. Sheldon, chairman and founder of the Traditional Values Coalition was sitting with several conservative senators and a dozen Republican House members at the Capitol Hill Club when they learned of the agreement.
' You would have thought that the World Series was forfeited again for some dumb reason. They all slapped their hands against their heads and cried out. They couldn't believe that this was the agreement.'
Of the seven Republicans who signed the compromise agreement, Sheldon said: 'They didn't have the backbone and fortitude to stand up for the fact that we are the majority.'
James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family, which has been lobbying GOP senators to stand firm, expressed his 'disappointment, outrage and a sense of abandonment.'
Come election day, he said, 'voters will remember both Democrats and Republicans who betrayed their trust.'

The Seven Deadly Sinators
Sounds like something Victor Davis Hanson would suggest. :)
The Strychnine Seven
The Sulfuric Seven
(I am in a poisonous mood today, can you tell?)
I seem to remember that Lindsay Graham had a prominent role in Bill Clinton's impeachment trial and that I thought, at the time, he was doing a good job. Am I remembering correctly? If so, what has happened to his spine since then?
"I have suffered under WARNER as VA Senator for decades and nothing can stop this "moderate" with his N. VA. support inside the beltway. I no longer waste correspondance to him as the arrogance of his staff is demoralizing."
DeRINO must be taking lessons from Warner. He was quoted in our Sunday paper as saying that he didn't care how many phone calls he got and would not reply to any of them, as he had already made up his mind. How's that for arrogance? And from a weasel-faced maggot at that!
The "7 F--- Ups".
Concise, yet it is completely accurate and describes their actions perfectly.
Absolutely! It is nothing short of remarkable that MSM has not had anything to say about his prison stay w/respect to getting the nomination. They do nothing but blow smoke up his gazoo about how neat he is to get him to push for the nom. But that's my point---in a general election his opposition AND the MSM would nail him as unreliable in the way that ONLY the Swifties were able to nail Kerry.
The Seven Democrats.
He was in the House then and he was helpful but his spine is now in the Senate---Apparently the water is different there.
lemoncharlie Thanks for the following:
Robert Bennett, who would later represent President Bill Clinton in the Paula Jones case, was the special counsel for the committee. In his opening remarks, he slammed DeConcini but went lightly on McCain, the lone Republican ensnared with four Democrats.
McCain, the ultimate survivor, had dodged another missile.
Among the Keating Five, McCain received the most direct contributions from Keating. But the investigation found that he was the least culpable..................
Orin is too old, how about Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh or Mark Levin?
Shows me the system our Founding Fathers created still works.
You never read the Federalist Papers?
I'll actively work against the republican party if mcCain is the (r) candidate. Might as well have hellary and show people what socialism is about, rather than a p.o.s. republican pretender. Let the dems take the blame for flushing the USA down the toilet......
THE SEVEN DWARFS
Yes, I've read the Federalist Papers, you condescending SOB.
Remember when Arizona voters were working to recall McLame? Following 9/11, they stood down in the spirit of "unity".
I will definitely send money I used to send to the GOP to any recall or "working for opponent" groups who oppose these 7 traitors.
All of them clones of Dopey?
This is not an endorsement of what just happened mind you - just saying how it happened does not bother me.
