McCain is 68? I can't see him as a viable candidate anyway, he would be about 72 in 2008 and 76 at the end of a first term.

Second, anyone trying to run as a Republican and not the media darling of the new media is toast. McCain being the old MSM darling is strike two.

Third, The old media is dying and the new media is on the rise. The ability to see the slow power grab by the new media from the old media is hard for those inside the political circle of D.C. and the old MSM to understand and denial is the current method to deal with it.

You might as well call it the conservative media and the liberal media period. Howard Dean for all his bumbling almost grasp the power of the new media before he shot himself in the foot and faded away.

Last, take a look at Alexa.com and graph the major political websites on both sides and look at how Free Republic fairs. I think this website will play a bigger role than expected by all in 2008.

The 60 vote requirement is for cloture to end a filibuster, right? So if 7 Democrats are "out of play" and have promised to vote for cloture

They have only promised to vote for cloture on 3 nominees, Owens, Brown, and Pryor. They've reserved the right to do so for Myers and Saad, and any others if they think the circumstances are "extraordinary". Meanwhile the 7 RINOs pledged not to vote for any rules changes, which would include the nuclear option, until the end of the current Congress, which ends at the end of 2006.

They both passed---the one with umbilical cord blood passed 470-1--Ron Paul was the only nay vote.

The other bill, with embryonic stem cells also passed something like 284-197 (close, anyway) but with not enough of a majority to be veto proof...however, like I said, the article said that at least 60 senators are already in FAVOR of this second bill...what a shame

I am not surprised after this "compromise committee" crap...how many conservatives are there, really?

I am sort of afraid that Frist will vote for it, because I had heard that he is a little more ready to fund embryonic stem cell research than President Bush is....

You know, my daughter just had a baby in January and they talked to the doctor to see if they could have her umbilical blood saved...it was going to cost thousands of $$$$$ -which they didn't have, so they couldn't save it--

If the congress wants to spend money so bad on stem cell research, they should help couples pay or pay to get the umbilical blood from newborns...

Personally, the drug companies could pay for this research on their own...but I do not want my money going for embryonic stem cells...
