Graham: "a chance to start over."

Hey Graham, the "start over" was Nov. 2005 when George Bush was reelected President of the United States.

Glad Hannity's nailing him about the WH having to consult with the Senate.

Just arrived in my email from Bill Frist's office:

____________________________________________________

As promised, an update on the judicial nominee front ...

Last night, an arrangement was reached by fourteen of my colleagues. I was not a party to it, and here's why...

I do not agree with it because it does not get the job done of ensuring fair, up or down votes on all judicial nominees sent to the Senate by the President.

It is my firm belief that--on principle--all judicial nominees deserve an up or down vote on the floor of the United States Senate.

The new understanding, if followed in good faith, affirms my principle to some extent. It marks some break in the partisan obstruction of the past two years, and ensures that seven outstanding jurists-including Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor--will get the fair up or down votes they have long deserved.

But it does not grant fairness to all other jurists. It still allows mindless filibusters to be triggered at the whim of a minority more interested in obstruction than progress.

And that is a shame.

So make no mistake, the Constitutional Option remains on the table. If the minority again acts in bad faith--if they resume their campaign of mindless judicial obstruction--I will NOT hesitate to call it to a vote.

Not for a second.

For too long on judicial nominees, the filibuster was abused to facilitate partisanship, and subvert principle.

We have exposed the injustice of judicial obstruction in the last Congress, and advanced the core Constitutional principle that all judicial nominees deserve a fair up or down vote on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

So the Senate will begin to execute this arrangement, with a vote up or down on Priscilla Owen. Giving up their minority-party led obstructionism, the Senate invoked cloture on her today by a vote of 81-18. Priscilla Owen--after four years, two weeks and two days--will finally receive the fair, up or down vote she deserves.

And, mark my words, more judges like her will follow in the days ahead. I hope the minority will respect the will of the majority, and give judges the courtesy, the respect, of a fair, up or down vote.

Bill Frist

I truly believe that Lisa is the type that will run into a burning building, guiding people to safety saying "everything is going to be all right" ---

IOW, she is a natural caregiver and I appreciate it Lisa Fab, unfortunately, I have a hot temper that is slow to cool sometimes --- give us a day or so...but don't think we don't appreciate your level headedness since the announcement last night...

THanks!!!

Did you hear that Lindsey compared his "bravery" on voting to end the filibusters to the bravery of our soldiers?

From another thread:

Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham, in a just-concluded interview with Judy Woodruff of CNN's Inside Politics, somehow managed to compare his support of the filibuster deal with the bravery of our soldiers dying in Iraq.

He said: "Over in Iraq, we have soldiers dying and others being wounded, and all of them are subject to being shot at. They didn't have to volunteer to join the military. And I didn't have to change my vote to support this filibuster plan. But I did it for the good of the country."

Someone needs to tell Lindsey that McPain is not the majority leader - he is nothing. Did Graham just say that ANY 'rat that filibusters a judge nomination will cause him to go nuclear? ANY RAT, not just one of the Weasels?

Gonzalez would be a lousy SCCJ candidate---he is way to socially liberal!!!

I did not say that Gonzales would get the nod for chief justice. I said that Scalia would be promoted to chief justice and Gonzales would be chosen by Bush to backfill the Scalia vacancy.

As to Gonzales' moderate-to-conservative ideology, take up your argument with the president of the United States, not with me. The President likes this Attorney General and believes he is plenty conservative. He is also confirmable.

I surely hope that the Bolton nomination goes through...I like his ideas (but he could use a haircut and get rid of that moustache if he wants to look sharp IMHO)

NO ONE BELIEVES YOU LINDSEY!!!

I caught that Lindsey will join to be rid of Saad because the Dems have a political vendeatta against him. That isn't what Lindsey said, but Lindsey is a liar so we'll just help him out by placing the Truth in his mouth.

The only problem is that now anything that happens in the Senate will be blamed on the President and the right wingers who the MSM and the Dims will say didnt live up to the agreement. The Republicans had momentum to get out agenda in the fast lane and they just gave it all away.

Being new, you may not know that that kind of talk here, is NOT allowed.

There was no "revolution", armed reaction, etc. when Clinton was the president and there will NOT be an "uprising" now nor later.

And blaming President Bush is just silly.

So PO'd my fingers are numb. Graham is citing polls to explain himself. I would like to take the "wait and see" approach and calm down, but he is wavering in his explanation and citing idiotic MSM push polls. He has absolutely no spine. Now he says "if they fillibuster I will pull the trigger." He and his two-faced pal McCain have hijacked the Senate and removed the spine of the Republican party. He says the Dem 7 have broken from their party to compromise. I had no idea Byrd was so level headed.
