Years ago a package of 3 Harlequin romances arrived in the mail addressed to me complete w/an invoice. I screamed that I certainly didn't order THESE and promptly dumped them in the donated books barrel at the local library.

A month later another package of 3 arrived, and I went to the moon thinking that anyone would even THINK I'd read such trash. My husband was having difficulty suppressing his laughter by this time. Then he confessed.......for a joke he had signed me up w/that book club just to see how I would react. Needless to say, my membership was promptly cancelled.

I think if she were elected President and her face was on on a nearly daily basis, my T.V. would commit suicide on it's own.

3 Appelate judges who stay appelate judges may not tip the power but the appelate bench is where they choose SC justices from...if the Democrats approve the vote on these 3 for this court then they can hardly vote against one of them if a spot opens on the SCOTUS...I can see GW moving Brown up to the Supreme Court when Thomas or Scalia take over Rehnquist's spot...I love it when a plan comes together.

William Pryor of Alabama, former Attorney General of AL and currently serving a recess appt. made by the President when Pryor fell victim to the filibuster. Remember Bush offered recess appts. to others, but only Pickering and Pryor were in circumstances where it made sense to accept. No way would Owen or Brown or Estrada give up what they have now for a 1 yr recess appt.

I flipped back to my game and that picture was still staring at me. I gladly took the time deduction (no pause on Jewel Quest) to move the game in front of her face.

BUT, his description of what constitutes a "foul" by the other side, is if ONE OF THE SEVEN CALLS FOR A FILIBUSTER--

He didn't say if any dem calls for a filibuster, just those seven, which means that Schumer, Reid, Kennedy, Clinton, Kerry, any of them can call for a filibuster and it wouldn't trigger an abuse, according to Graham....

But a filibuster can be ended by calling for cloture (what happened today on Owen) and in the event another dem calls a filibuster, these 7 have agreed to vote for cloture, unless they then invoke the "extraordinary circumstance" bs, in which case we get to see if the Republican signers say they're not acting in good faith.

Sidenote: I will not watch CSPAN2 play HRC so will rely on the thread to alert me when I should turn the channel back to the Senate.

what "others" are you referring to? I want to get Owen, Rogers-Brown, and Pryor confirmed first.

Of 12 nominees to Circuit Courts of Appeal, only William Myers (Exec Cal #37, Mar 17), Thomas Griffith (Exec Cal #66, Apr 14), Priscilla Owen (Exec Cal #71, Apr 21) and Janice Brown (Exec Cal #72, Apr 21) have been voted out of committee. The rest are pending in committee.

William Pryor was voted out of committee on May 12.

Those the White House said will be renominated, the respective courts and the dates on which they were first nominated are:

For the Court of Appeals:

For District Courts:

Brown would be an ideal nominee for the USSC but probably not until later in Bush's term if another vacancy arises.

My guess is that Rehnquist will retire, and Bush will nominate Scalia for chief justice, and backfill the Scalia vacancy with a confirmable moderate-conservative. Atty General Gonzales is a good bet; he would enjoy strong Hispanic support.

A later USSC vacancy to Rogers Brown. What are the RATS gonna do, filibuster a black female for a USSC appointment heading into a presidential election year? I think not.

Hey, we've been through a lot these last 5 days, so I hope I haven't upset you---

I just saw Santorum at the microphone talking about how proud he was of the 7 Weasels and what a good deal it was---

now, IMHO, that makes him one of them....But, if that makes you mad at ME, let's talk about it, okay?
