FReepers be prepared for surprises today.

Yep, that's my take.
Graham holds the trump card.
Speaking of lack of trust, do you get OpinionJournal's Political Diary? Holman W. Jenkins Jr. really ripped the deal and Bill Frist.
Can anyone truly imagine the Democrats controlling the Senate and the White House and offering to power share with us? Or signing onto the deal that the Democrat president would have to confer with the minority Republicans in the Senate?
It's unimaginable. And the people putting a good spin on this are really surprising me.
We've been told through "sources" here in South Carolina that Graham is the lynchpin to the whole thing and to target him.
GOOD FIND!!!
Bookmarked, thanks again, Maggie.
I don't think he has much time left
He looks and sounds really bad
I think that he would. What needs to happen is Frist needs to keep Judicial nominees the top priority on the executive calander; he could also bring to the floor nominees that are not on the "deal list" for a vote and force the RINOs hand. After all, kyl, burr, allen, cornyn and the rest of the repubs did not agree to the deal. What is pretty certain is that McCain did not read the mood of the base; nor does he understand the power of the internet. He is pretty much finished in the republican party. Look for him to bolt in '07. He will never be reelected in Arizona. RINOS would do well to read the pulse of the nation by looking at the blogs and not the WAPO or NYtimes.
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator George Allen (R-VA), today issued the following statement on the deal that was struck last night to avoid an immediate showdown over the outrageous and unprecedented Democrat filibusters of President Bush's judicial nominees:
"Overall this is a major disappointment on principle. It's a good victory for 3 of the President's nominees, who the Democrats have vilified. They will get the vote they deserve. But this is not a great deal for 2 nominees who have been accorded a nice wake having been thrown overboard at sea. Thus, this so-called deal is disappointing for all of us who believe in the principle that persons should be accorded the fairness and due process of an up or down vote. Everyone should also clearly see that ultimately, nothing has been settled when a vacancy arises on the U.S. Supreme Court."
Yeah, I agree. Chemotherapy?
Yep.
Do you think he might die??? :) (uttered in best MSM interviewer voice)
YOUR MIND IS ALWAYS PRESENT. With so much BS being flung today, it's almost impossible to compartmentalize it.
Here they are the members of the Judiciary Committee! Hatch, Leahy, Grassley, Kennedy, Kyl, Kohl, Sessions, Feinstein, Graham, Feingold,Cornayn, Schumer, Brownback, Coburn and Durbin!
So yes!
Interesting ... makes sense to me.
Ahhh, but which obligation will they break? We won't know until they are put to the test, and it sounds as though Frist is willing to put them to the test, if they ask for it.
Tough to tell which way the test would break. Maybe 49 Senators would agree to take the vote on nominees as a matter of routine - the nuclear option would fail. But then their votes are on the record. And that is a good thing too. At least it is no worse than what we had last Congress, where the DEMs were stifling nominees with less than a simple majority.
Prescisley. They ran over us for over 40 years. Too many people have forgotten that.
I'm with you --- the spin is no different from putting lipstick on a pig.
That's because he's fighting cancer. Hair fell out from chemotherapy. Decent chance he'll beat it, but yes, it's taking it's toll on him. As much as I don't care for his positions most of the time I do wish him well with his health problems.
Why is the consitutional option a conservative ideal? If the tables were reversed, the Dems would being doing the same thing (except they would have forced the vote and changed the rules).
The real issue is that McCain and the 6 others wimped-out when it came to playing hardball party politics. Wonder what Bush has in store for him? He can't really punish the residents of AZ, so it makes for an interesting quandry.
Makes sense that Graham is the lynchpin. DeWine is too vulnerable to pressure from Frist and the White House -- he's up in '06 and I for one would love to see Ken Blackwell run against him in the primary. If Graham returns from the Dark Side than DeWine will tag along.
