Who let us down in the filibuster?
5/23/05 | Asphalt

There are numerous options as to what happened today to provoke the Senators to make the agreement instead of having the nuclear option vote. To me at least, it seems that the GOPers must have realized that they would not have enough votes from senators to get the nuclear option passed. So, assuming that this is the case, which it very well could or could not be, who let us down? McCain? Spectre? Some other RINO? or am I way off?

Great letter. Now follow it up with a photocopy of a check (no matter how small) to anyone opposing him in any primary.

The Democrats lost big tonight.

Yep. Everyone wanted to nuke the Dems once and for all (including me), but now we can play cat and mouse with them for great PR. They're over a barrel with no escape.
After the outrage from not getting the nuke dies down, I think everyone will see what has just happened, and cheer our side on for the smooth PR and check mate. The democrats have just lost their only way out. We hold all the cards.

Lindsey Graham: "Democrat by night"

Well, according to a former Daschle aide, Graham was quick to work with Daschle and the minority on a number of issues. After one such meeting, Graham emerged from Daschle's office, walked to the door, turned around, and proclaimed loudly for the Daschle's entire staff to hear:

                                                  Senator Lindsey Graham

Put down the bong and get straight, man.

You can't be serious. Are you really that naive?

Don't be a rube.

Any supreme court justice nominee anywhere to the Right of John McCain will be considered "extreme" and this bunch of RINOs will back the filibuster of them because they have to live up to this deal they cut with the devil. If they didn't have the guts to stand up today, what makes you think they will in the future?

"Extraordinary Circumstances"= Conservative record.

The Rats will break this deal faster than Bill Clinton did to his vows of fidelity when he married Hillary.

Why can't I find the names of the 14 signatories in the press? Who are they?

I don't get it. I don't understand why they don't just put the smack down on the Dems while they have the chance. Why make the peace without a fight? I guess the bottom line for me is that I just think it's the Demicans and the Repulicrats - it's the same party, they just take turns running things. They probably don't want to really blow the cover on each other's graft. War is bad for business.

The "deal" says if the Republicans don't agree, they can nuke. We still have the bomb in our hands, and the democrats still have nothing. They even lost this debate - we got our judges.

The Democrats lost big tonight.

Oh really!

Let's see... they had two choices:

1. Get all the Bush's nominees voted on

2. Get just three voted on

Tell me how number 2 is bigger than number 1.

By the way do you have anything for sale? I would love to do a deal with you. Better yet I'll get one of my liberal friends do it for me!

No one. Albeit, unwittingly.

We are right where we've always been, in spite of the idiot 14.

If the Dimms filibuster in the future...we nuke them. And, we have the votes to do it...probably more tonight than last night.

The only change is two nominees without a hope of winning 51 votes have been taken off the table...and three Conservative judges are going to the bench.

The three most EXTREME nominees, held at bay for four years because of the "damage" they would do to the nation, have just been cleared by the Democrat moderates.
That means that if Janice Rodgers Brown is nominated to the Supreme Court, the Dems simply will not be able to filibuster her.

That interesting point was brought out by Brit Hume on his show tonight. What delicious irony if any one of those the Democrats "let through" are nominated.

However, since they are masters of hypocrisy, they won't skip a beat and declare the nominee "too extreme".

PS....Did you see the "nonverbal" communication going on? Byrd talked big, but he was terrified. I've never seen him look so scared.
Never listen to what a politician says. Always watch what they do. Actions speak louder than words. We won big.

Here's a quote that says it all from Daily Kos:

"Savor the moment- these seem to be few and far between. UPDATE: Remember introductory psychology- this is a simple case of the foot-in-the-door technqiue. I think we can expect even bigger favors from these 6 Republicans in the future. "
