I take issue with people like McCain standing up there promoting his movie which we will not watch.

Furthermore, why the heck should it be up to a few when the entire senate should be able to vote up/down on a nominee?

This is absurd!!!!

Okay, so who actually thought something like this wouldn't happen?

You can kiss Frist goodbye, too!

This isn't Frist's fault.

I may be one of the few people around here who are pleased with this deal.

The Dems have just agreed to confirm 3 most "extreme" judges that they had been blocking for years, and agreed to no filibusters, except under extraordinary circumstances. In return, the Republican side agreed to no rule change... but if the Dems fail to live up to their end of the deal, then even the squishy moderates will be happy to "Nuke".

You may be correct. I just heard on MSNBC that this panders to the Democrats by Frist acting like the R's lost and it saves face for the Democrats, since they were defeated anyway. So it was a face saving exercise for the Democrats, and the R's didn't lose much, so far. The Dems can call it a "victory" for them and the R's can pout, when in reality it's a small loss for the R's.

What you think?

Pardon me, but you haven't been here a year.

Excuse me, I know you wouldn't know this, but I've been here since Oct. 12 1998...I changed my screen name last year. And I've worked my butt off as much as anyone for W and for Congress, including giving way more money to Republican candidates last year, including the Swiftees, than we could reasonably afford. So I have as much at stake here, and as much of a history on FR, as anyone here.

Yes, but she isn't ripe for SCOTUS. She will be but when she is you can bet your last dollar that the democrats will fillibuster, slander, lie, cheat and break their word to keep her off the court. The notion that this makes her a lock is simply wishful thinking.

Damn straight the democrats can't handle the republicans getting another minority such a high position especially a black woman.

My deer Freepers, I am so angry right now, I can hardly see straight, so I will do the smart thing and wait a couple of days until the dust settles a bit. I can't help to think that you, me, all of us deserve what we get... yes, we must not be so great after all if we get these spineless, gutless, people.

Right now this looks like a total loss for me, because we lost the PRINCIPLE... and also found out we have Reps, w/o principles. I also don't think Frits is completely innocent, along with many other of the Rep side.... they knew what was going on, and they simply wanted to save face. But just for starters, I will not give one more penny to the GOP, or any Republican for that matter. I will give that money to organizations that go after those 7 SOBs.

So let's not dispair, this should give us the motivation to keep fighting. We are the religious right and we must keep fighting for this country, because we don't, it will go to hell itself. We have the power and the duty to keep fighting and we will win.

"McCain will never be President. He won't be able to win the primary and I (and a large majority of Red Voters) will vote for Hillary over his sorry, pathetic ass."

Some Arizonans were trying to impeach McPain, but that was stopped after 9/11. My prediction - McPain would not win the Arizona Presidental primary next time if there is a living, breathing opponent!

"And Leader Frist can and will roll out the Constitutional Option once again."

Wrong

Read the agreement again. The RINOs in this gang just vowed never to block any philibuster by this Senate.

We lose. end of story

SOME of what FRIST is saying on the FLoor...

But with this agreement, all options remain on the table, including the constitutional option. If it had been necessary to deploy the constitutional option, it would have been successful and the senate would have, by rule, returned to the precedent in the past 214 years. Instead, tonight members have agreed that this precedent of up-or-down votes should be a norm of behavior as a result of the mutual trust and good will in that agreement.

I, of course, will monitor this agreement carefully as we move ahead to fill the pending 46 federal vacancies today. And any other vacancies that may yet arise during this congress. I have made it clear from the outset that i haven't wanted to use the constitutional option

I do not want to use the constitutional option, but bad faith in return to bad behavior during my tenure as majority leader will bring the senate back to the point where all 100 members will be asked to decide whether judicial nominees deserve a fair up-or-down vote. And I will not hesitate to call all members to their duty, if necessary. But for now, mr. President, as reflected in this agreement, i look forward to swift action on the identified nominations.

Now, the full impact of this agreement will await its implementation, its full implementation, but I do believe that the good faith and the good will all to guarantee a return to good -- ought to guarantee a return to good, appropriate behavior on the senate floor and that when the gavel falls on this congress, the 109th congress, the precedent of the last 214 years will once again govern up-or-down votes on the floor of the united states senate. Now, this will be spun by a victory, i would assume, for everyone. Some will say it is a victory for leadership. Some for the group of 14. I see it as a victory for the senate. I honestly believe it is a victory for the senate, where members have put aside a party demand to block action on judicial nominees. They have rose to principle and then acted accordingly.

So, other words, we win on three judges and the rest are still to be determined. We can nuke them then if necessary.

We threw noone overboard. We won on every judge on the floor today. We reserve the right to nuke them if necessary.

It's not a total surrender by the Democrats, but it's tantamount to it.

At the very most, it's a face saving measure for them. Surrender with dignity.

Mr. Mabelkitty is %$#!!!.
Thankfully, he can't use a computer and has decided to watch Toy Story 2 to chill.

I hope you are right in your assessment. This means Frist is going to show McCain who is boss.

It doesn't get much more horrid. As I've said before John McCain is not only a vain man, he is a man with nothing upstairs to be vain about.

Why would he do that? He won't be a part of the Senate after the '06 elections...he's going to be a private doctor again - FOREVER!

You forgot about the Republican cave-in, let by Trent Lott, in not allowing a real Impeachment trial. The House managers were reduced to showing video clips.

By the time the MSM is done spinning this story, McCain will emerge as the hero that saved America from "partisan hell."
