Announce Filibuster Compromise
I called my Senators early this afternoon to thank them for fighting so hard to end the filibusters of judges.
And I will call them in the morning to let them know that I expect them to vote against any deal that would presume to tell the President to confer with the opposition before submitting nominees.
Remember the Keating Five?

For too long, McCain has been given a free pass by the media, which promotes campaign-finance reform to silence other voices, and by his Republican colleagues, who are concerned about alienating McCain given the GOP's tenuous majority in the Senate.
In John McCain's America, any politician who accepts a large contribution or gift from a donor, and then takes steps consistent with the donor's interests — even though there is no legal quid pro quo — is corrupt. Well, then, by his own standard, McCain is corrupt.
McCain was one of the so-called "Keating Five" senators. He was investigated by the Senate Select Committee on Ethics in 1991 regarding the acceptance of favors from Lincoln Savings & Loan Association (Lincoln) and its owner, Charles H. Keating, Jr. Simply put, the issue was whether McCain and the other senators used their official positions to attempt to pressure Federal Home Loan Bank Board officials to go easy on the troubled institution. Eventually Lincoln went bust, costing depositors and taxpayers millions.
In its final report (November 20, 1991), here is what the Senate Select Committee on Ethics concluded about McCain's conduct:
"Mr. Keating, his associates, and his friends contributed $56,000 for Senator McCain's two House races in 1982 and 1984, and $54,000 for his 1986 Senate race. Mr. Keating also provided his corporate plane and/or arranged for payment for the use of commercial or private aircraft on several occasions for travel by Senator McCain and his family, for which Senator McCain ultimately provided reimbursement when called upon to do so. Mr. Keating also allowed Senator McCain and his family to vacation with Mr. Keating and his family, at a home provided by Mr. Keating in the Bahamas, in each of the calendar years 1983 through 1986.
"…[F]rom 1984 to 1987, Senator McCain took actions on Mr. Keating's behalf or at his request. The Committee finds that Senator McCain had a basis for each of these actions independent of the contributions and benefits he received from Mr. Keating, his associates and friends.

My bedtime prayer tonight will ask that God guide us to revving up the machine that carried us to victory in November by launching recalls of each of these snakes. Let's then run Real Conservatives in special elections -- perhaps as early as November.
Risky? Hardly. Typically, Demonrats & RINOs can't be bothered to show up for special elections. And it's not as if we suffer a shortage of talent provided we're willing to purge the waverers at the grass roots, county level where the real work in a campaign gets done.
I agree, but on the upside, perception is very important and tomorrow there will be cloture vote on the Owens debate. Then there will be three conservative nominees confirmed. That will LOOK like a Republican victory after the dust up.
Unless Bush does something radical (like recess appointments) he has jjust become a lame duck.
The media will not let this go. They wil tout this as a roll back of the "far right." I bet it sticks.
This is a huge setback for the conservative cause.
In my dreams and my prayers, Bush would do exactly as you suggest. Sadly, I'm not going to hold my breath.

We've got at least seven RINO's in the senate and probably another half dozen more. What is so Freeping hard to understand about this? Why is everybody so Freeping surprised?

Conservatives don't have a majority. We're not too far away. Maybe, soon, in an election cycle or two, we will get a majority -- but we don't have one yet.
Look at our roster of R Senators. Gee what a surprise. We didn't win.
On a plus side (if I can call it that), McCain has lost what slim chance he ever had of getting my vote. I don't think he has the proverbial snowball's chance to get the nomination in '08.
Bump. For those who don't remember the real John McLame. A little history on the dirty tricks Warren the bigot Rudman played on GWB in the first Republican primary would also be in order. It had to do with Catholics. McLame is the epitome of a hypocrit and this earns him the adoration of a fawning left wing media because they can use his comments, and those of his RINO colleagues, in their anti-conservative sound bites. Exactly. I'm not sure where this is all headed, but I'd be curious to see how it plays out when a judicial nomination is deemed "extraordinary" by a Democrat on that committee.

My family and I have been faithful supporters and active members of the Republican Party here in New Hampshire for years. The last Democrat I voted for was Jimmy carter in the 70’s. Due to the extreme cowardice and near treasonous disregard for the Constitution of the United States shown by the Republican members of the Senate of the United States, who decided to cave in to unreasonable demands from the Democrat side of the aisle, I will cease to provide contributions to the Republican National Committee. Until this party remembers who voted for it and behaves in a manner consistent with what its base believes in, you will not receive so much as one penny from me again.

Until they begin to act like men and grow some stones they will get no support or votes from me. I will no longer vote for Republicans unless they deal with the illegal alien issue, the social security problem, and ALL of the President's judicial nominees. I will not vote for democRATS either but will sit out the next election and let the country get the kind of "leadership" it deserves.

I took a break to get dinner and then watched my taped TV shows and listened to Rush's show today.
It's hilarious listening to all of the "predictions" and the confidence (we had some after last week) portrayed while knowing it all fell apart.
Everyone was wrong. It's actually quite amusing.
Frist has been a complete and utter failure as Majority ( there's a laugh for ya ) Leader, since he took the post. Hes has the intellect and leadership skills of a grain of sand. He's all promises and no "do". He has less of an idea of how to control our side, than an 8 year old school yard bully.
