Announce Filibuster Compromise
We don't have Owens and Brown yet; we have no idea what deals these creepy rino's made - they may vote against them. And there is no way any of these creeps care about Bush. Bush did not okay this, and was never asked. This is a power takeover from Frist. McCain knew how really weak Frist was and has capitalized on it.
ROFL...no, more the violent thoughts rule! he he
Is revolution talk okay? ;-)
I agree. Who do you want to replace him with?
Dean in Az
We don't have 50+ senators either, apparently.
:) Don't tell you also but BS about "TRUSTING EACH OTHER...", based on trust!
I can't disagree with your analysis.
He should complete the coup and try to become Majority Leader.
"they would permanently face the wrath of the President."
True. But there are a couple of things in play here. First of all, if made without the knowledge of Bush, his wrath will be made known at a time of his chosing.
And so what? Some of the dealmakers are eyeing his job. They want to be seen as a stronger man than Bush. McCain has been screwing Bush left and right since he lost the nomination in 2000. This is not new territory for him.
There was even a spectacular PBS documentary-that was surprisingly balanced-which chronicled the fortunes of the North campaign in its efforts to simultaneously defeat Senator Robb and ward off the treachery of Senator Warner.
I think one of the problems is the nominating process in your state, which-if I'm not mistaken-still relies to a great extent on state conventions in order to determine who will be the nominee in the general election.
This essentially shuts conservatives out from the nominating process, unless they have extraordinary name recognition-like Ollie North-or an unlimited reserve of wealth to draw upon.
The Pubbies controlled the Senate from 80-86.
Hang in there, the game isn't over yet.
We should all calm down and see how this plays out in the upcoming days.- Tom
With "friends" like you, the Republicans sure don't need enemies.
From my perspective, Frist has, up until tonight, herded a bunch of prima donna cats. It sure wasn't his fault that a bunch of them bolted.
Perhaps Frist needs some help in herding those cats. What have you done to help?
I have a different sex marriage. People in Tx have been committing sodomy forever, with or without the Courts permission. I would guess that support for anti sodomy laws affecting consenting adults is pretty small. Most people don't care if two adults do whatever in private. And abortion is not something that is purely conservative or liberal. People cross lines on that pretty much. Not all conservatives are against abortion and not all liberals are for abortion.
I think people here need to calm down a bit.
All this talk of staying home in 2006 is stupid. This will only increase the power of the RINOS and liberal Democrats.
The Dems want to depress us.
What happened?
Well we just got Janice Rogers Brown, Owens, and Pryor confirmed. That in itself is a great victory.
Especially Ms. Brown as she will most likely be appointed to the Supreme Court.
ATTENTION ALL FREEREPERS
In 2006, kindly take your anger out at the Democrats in the following states.
Washington
Nebraska
North Dakota
Minnesota
Maryland
Florida
West Virginia
New Jersey
Michigan
Vermont
These are races in which the GOP has a chance of winning.
We will only get a conservative judiciary by INCREASING our numbers in the Senate, NOT by staying home and pouting.
Look here, if we had not increased our majority by four in 2004, Brown, Owens, and Pryor would NOT BE DAYS AWAY FROM BEING SWORN in.
Patience.
Keep our heads together and work to elect conservatives in the House and Senate.
Change will not happen overnight.
We will see, but I think this will suck the wind out of the conservative momentum. Many voters last year were drawn into politics in the hope of real change. They are not seeing it. They will stay way next time. A golden opportunity was lost for a lack of faith, vision and discipline in the GOP.
No he won't Andrew. Rhenquists replacement will not be voted on in this Congress.
They have it right: It's a huge slap in POTUS's face, and McCain got to deliver it, under the shield (guise) of statesmanship.
You're missing my point -- look at *which* Dems went for this: they're all vulnerable. They will want to make sure to at least be seen to be holding up their end, or they're toast next election. Don't expect to see lots of Dem filibustering from now on. We have to be smart about this -- provide conservative candidates, but vet them thoroughly so the Dems can't trump up anything on them (or use a racial PR poison pill like nominating someone like Janice Brown). Remember, if the Dems are seen to filibuster for no reason, these vulnerable Dem senators lose. From that standpoint, they *had* to deal, and they *have* to hold up their end of the deal. If we're smart and diligent in our vetting process, we can get our judges through.
I'm not happy about the RINOs -- I would have preferred to seem them not cave, but some of them are vulberable, too. The only solution is to try to replace them with the real deal, but in places like ME that's nigh impossible.
We'll still roll over the Dems with respect to judges, but it won't be the type of victory where we get them all at once in the space of a month. It will be a slow grind.
Well then, we better damn well be ready in the primaries with opposition!!!!
