PROGRAM -- (Senate - May 20, 2005)

Mr. CORNYN. Mr. President, on Monday, the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Priscilla Owen to serve as a circuit judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Monday will be the fourth consecutive day the Senate considers the Owen nomination.
Over the past 3 days, a number of Members, on both sides of the aisle, have come to the floor to speak on the nomination. We have conducted over 25 hours of debate, and we will continue on Monday. Moments ago, we filed a cloture motion on the nomination, and that will ripen on Tuesday of next week.
On behalf of the majority leader, I remind my colleagues the leader has announced our next rollcall vote will occur Monday afternoon at 5:30. That vote will be on a motion to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to request Senators' attendance. Senator Frist will have more to say about next week's session on Monday.
He's going to tell us that he agrees with us... but that we shouldn't change the senate rules.
Senator Byrd (I love this guy)
"How would they have voted?" -- they are dead, so they would have voted with the democrats.
"How would they vote" -- they wouldn't be filibustering to begin with......
"How would they vote, if they were here tomorrow?" -- anything like how you voted in 1975?
"Sad, Sad, Sad, Sad it is."
"I rise today [did he really rise this morning, or is he still asleep?]"
"I ask each Senator to pause for a moment and reflect"
"I implore Senators to Step Back, Step back, Step Back, Step back...." -- Senator Byrd just backed out of the hall, and has to be retrieved.
"The political discourse have become .... So Unbelievable" -- SO he's been awake for at least some of the democrat speeches.
"A place that they trust to seek the truth, they are turning to their religious faith"
"America is suffering Sensory Overload" -- that's why we are listening to you now, to calm us down.
"A place where they can find peace, they are turning to their faith, to their religious faith." -- Or we are listening to your speech to lull us to sleep.
[He's really on this religious faith thing today].
Now he is listing low-rated Cable TV shows.
"America is seeking answers .... from a higher power. Through their religious faith".
[IS HE bemoaning that people have lost trust in the Senate and is instead turning to God?]
"Or it might be a majority in this country" -- Hey, at least he gets that.
One thing I like about Byrd is that he often speaks exactly what I am thinking, before he draws the entirely WRONG conclusion. Now he is bemoaning the courts trampling on our religious freedoms.
Byrd Continues.......
Thats right. and the Dumbs know it. By delaying till the last pssible moment then voting for Cloture, they will drag this on and on and on and on and on and on.....
"Can I get an amen from y'all!"
This is all a complex dance for the benefit for the Mushy Middle!!!!!
Yipee!
Can I get an amen?
The dims are much more entertaining!
Oh I agree! I poppped popcorn! This is better than the Super Bowl! Sheets and his gang are pathetic! I am watching the decline of the Democratic party, I never dreamed I would witness this. My whole life mostly the Dems were in power and now they are flaming out. It's like watching the Berlin wall come down! "Let Freedom Reign!
He's trying to tell us that he agrees with us, but doesn't want to change the senate rules.
Calling all the Evangelicals!
You beat me to it
It would make a great sound-bite, but it's way to looonnnnnnnnngggggggggggg!
