PROGRAM -- (Senate - May 20, 2005)

[Page: S5714] GPO's PDF

---

Mr. CORNYN. Mr. President, on Monday, the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Priscilla Owen to serve as a circuit judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Monday will be the fourth consecutive day the Senate considers the Owen nomination.

Over the past 3 days, a number of Members, on both sides of the aisle, have come to the floor to speak on the nomination. We have conducted over 25 hours of debate, and we will continue on Monday. Moments ago, we filed a cloture motion on the nomination, and that will ripen on Tuesday of next week.

On behalf of the majority leader, I remind my colleagues the leader has announced our next rollcall vote will occur Monday afternoon at 5:30. That vote will be on a motion to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to request Senators' attendance. Senator Frist will have more to say about next week's session on Monday.

Honestly I have not had a crush this serious since back when Paul McCartney was cute.

LOL, you really are gone on the guy. I can certainly understand it. I'm developing a "thing" for George Allen myself.

DON'T BOTHER WITH THE US CAPITOL NUMBER OFR HIM; IT'S ALWAYS BUSY.

HIS NUMBER IN COLUMBIA IS: 803-933-0112

If he pulls this off, he will not only have my apology, he will have my financial support as well. But, it want happen. We have to many lilly livered Rino's who will make a deal beforehand and we'll lose about three of the niminees in the deal.. You can take that one to the bank and bet on it.

I don't agree that we'll lose three nominees, but even if we lost all of them because of lilly [sic] livered "RINOS" -- how is that Bill Frist's fault?

Well, whatever their plan you can be sure it will consist of a full-on meltdown, aided and abetted by the media.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

I feel blessed with Inhofe and Coburn.

I nominate Oklahoma as the state with the best Senate delegation.

In the interim, at one week per Judge, that will begin to make our side look bad.

Nah, the Legacy MediaTM is now irrelevant.

Hutchinson personalizing Owens. Didn't wish to hurt the president during election by withdrawal, didn't anticipate when put name up the attacks that would come.

Hutchinson is doing a fabulous job! Stating owens has been treated as though she isn't a person!

Chuckie never lied about his military service to disgrace this country, and Hillary never killed anybody -- at least, not that anyone could prove. They are pikers compared to Fat Ted and Te-RAY-Za's poodle.

Most difficult question is that don't people realize this confirmation process is making it difficult to recruit qualified candidates?

I think everybody here realizes this. It's pretty hard to get an Estrada or Bork when the president who nominates you lets your name becomes a synonym for "twisting in the breeze."

A president's legacy is his judges. This bears repeating - No judges, no bucks.

You have a severe case of defeatism.

Fortunately I have been innoculated.

Well, I'll take my Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, and fold.

Feinstean at least has her rare, occasional lucid moments. Fleeting as they are.
