-- Sen. Edward Kennedy's brother-in-law testified in federal court Thursday against the former national finance director of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2000 campaign, who is accused of lying to regulators about the cost of a lavish Hollywood fundraiser.
Raymond Reggie, a prominent political consultant whose sister is married to Kennedy, testified that David Rosen said event producers were charging $500,000 _ $100,000 more than was reported to the Federal Election Commission.
Rosen, 38, is accused of lying to the Federal Election Commission about the true costs of the August 2000 gala that drew celebrities, including Cher, Diana Ross, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston and Muhammad Ali. Prosecutors contend that Rosen deliberately caused campaign finance reports to be filed that claimed "in-kind" contributions of $400,000 for the Hollywood gala, when he knew that contributions exceeded $1.1 million.

Aren't all Sen Kennedy's brothers-in-law already in jail or in rehab somewhere?
I thought it was $800,000 - and the form filed with the FEC said $100,000. Which would be a $700,000 windfall to Hillary.
Rosen's attorney attacked Reggie's credibility, noting that he has pleaded guilty to unrelated bank fraud charges in Louisiana. Defense attorney Paul Sandler also noted that Reggie had been charged in 2002 with impersonating a police officer. Those charges were dismissed.
Under cross-examination, defense attorneys elicited testimony from Reggie in which he said he wore a wire to a dinner with Rosen two years after the fundraiser. During that dinner, Rosen said he didn't know the costs of flying celebrities to Los Angeles.
Prosecutors then pointed out that Rosen knew he was being investigated by that time.
A second witness testified Thursday that Rosen told her in the days before the event that costs had dropped substantially, from $468,000 to $366,000.
Whitney Burns, the compliance officer charged with filing finance reports to the SEC said Rosen told her that "Cher had dropped out and that there wouldn't be any band expenses for her."
Cher performed at the event. Prosecutors told jurors they plan to play a video of her performance.
Several other government witnesses have testified that Rosen told them costs were "spiraling out of control."
How do you know it wasn't just a halloween party? Have you or your children ever impersonated anyone on halloween???
