CNN now reporting that 12 senators....6 Dems, 6 GOP..meeting in Warner's office to broker a compromise..Nelson says negotiations are ongoing..
That would completly suck. But it would be normal. sigh
good suggestions for phone calling.
Arlen Specter was just on with Judy Woodruff---
Judy asked him if it was true that the GOP want an up or down vote on all of Bushs nominees---and he said yes--
when she said, "Then why don't you just say that", Specter said we are, but then went into some long, convoluted explanation that had my head spinning....
If anyone else heard the interview, could you please tell me what the heck Specter just said?
Unless I'm mistaken, the only extra- or supermajority vote mentioned is for ratifying treaties. Two thirds required in that case. The filibuster rule has been changed in regard to parliamentary delaying tactics for legislation in the past.
Arlen was on life with Judy Woodward..the idea is to get a pre-count of how Senators will actually vote on the judges..if they'e gonna lose..no sense bothering to filabuster them..this sucks..back office deals..
I want a vote no matter, put them on record.
And I promise any Republican that derails this can start packing their bags.
BTW, it's been confirmed Dems shut down the Senate.
no deal no deal no deal no deal.
Impeachment also. For some reason I thought there was language as to legislative matters...but you are more than likely correct. I'll read up on it again later.
Orrin Hatch on Hannity.
Referencing the Miranda memos.
Orrin-started with rehnquist when re-nominated for Chief Justice. leaked his medical records. They smeared souter because they thought he was pro-life? LOL I wish.
I don't know who their best players are, but you can bet they are planning to have what they think is to their best political advantage on at prime time, and in the morning before the daily programs cut away.
They have tomorrow to work with as well, and almost certainly Friday morning. On Friday morning, Frist may telegraph his plan for asking to vote on the nominee. He won't ask to take the vote then, just indicate that at some point, there will be a request for unanimous consent to move to the vote. He may say that "next week, we will be asking, on a periodic basis, for unanimous consent to go to the vote. We aim to have had a full debate, blah blah blah"
There is no rule that cloture MUST be advanced. Most bills are voted on without a cloture motion. Cloture is a way to get to the vote WITHOUT unanimous consent.
The timing of asking for the vote is a fluid matter. I don't know for sure how Frist will gauge the timing - opinion polls? news broadcasts? pundit suggestions? editorials? or just his sense that the public has seen enough debate, and the public will "accept" or "understand" putting a question to the chair. Maybe it'll take until next week Friday. We do know that Frist has put no time certain to the matter. The nominee will be fully debated.
This is going to come back and bite them in the @ss- big time. Who's going to be blamed for the shutdown? The Repubs? I don't think so...
Her sole interest is power and no more. She cares for no one.
Yep-thats the one!!
Orrin on those working for compromise- nothing less than an up or down vote is acceptable.
He'll be on Hannity tonight with Nelson.
Sean says Pelosi and Reid are about to go before the cameras somewhere.
Oh. A pity party! I am at a loss as to what a compromise might be. Vote with less than full debate? Don't vote on the nominee? There isn't a whole lot of middle ground on the matter of the nomination of Pricilla Owen. Will the Senate obtain unanimous consent to vote on the nominee? If so, no rules change needed. But, a single objector will probably be aksed to take the floor and explain the INDIVIDUAL objection to taking the vote.
Per hannity- pelosi and Reid scheduled in front of cameras in 10-15 minutes.

If these 12 senators agree on a deal, how difficult would it be to stop it?
And not nearly as stupid as she is! She is not the "brilliant lawyer" the press wants everyone to believe. She is really quite ignorant (especially in the common sense department). But, she is mean as hell and vindictive.
A compromise means the dems get their way.
