this program has been accused of inspiring violence because of the so-called hate speech that the left assigned to mainstream conservatism, and throughout all of these years, these attempts have occurred repeatedly by the mainstream press, as a means of discrediting this program. Well, I can safely tell you that words uttered by me or anyone else on this program have never even caused injury

Ouch! BUMP. Just remember, it's not the substance. It's the seriousness of the charges that counts.
He certainly rips a strip off of Newsweak.
His opening monologue 5-17-05 is one of his finest hours.
He always nails it...
The MSM coheres around cowardice - the aversion to competition in the arena of ideas. The MSM circles the wagons around their claim of objectivity, as a defense mechanism against each other's propaganda power. The components of the MSM are deathly afraid of internal flame wars, so they have an unwritten mutual defense pact which says, "Not only will I never attack your credibility, and you will never attack mine, but if anyone attacks us or any member of the MSM we both will leap into the fray in defense of our colleague."They are moral cowards that have to hide behind the 1st Amendment every time someone questions their integrity. That mutual defense pact isn't explicitly written down, but it's the hardest and fastest rule in journalism. It isn't written down, but it occurs in cyberspace in what the members of the MSM say about each other and what they will never say about each other. That pact isn't written down, but it doesn't have to be - we all instinctively know that it exists.
The First Amendment basically says that the press has the right to be, by anyone else's lights, wrong. The government can't generally force it to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I second that.. El Magnifico!
Freepers should take a flag-draped coffin and hold a dirge in front of Newsweek's offices/
Suggested signs:
Is Newsweek good for America ?
(remember Newsweek's caption on Rush's cover ? )
My son killed by Newsweek and the mainstream media.
The media loves to show photos of flag-draped coffins - especially US dead.
Take it from there Freepers . . . .
Much deserved bump!
With this fake Koran-in-toilet story, "NEWSWEAK" is about all the magazine amounts to anymore.
I would guess that in modern time MSM has prolonged every war. I love our brave men and women fighting for our country and prey for them. The MSM hates them and everything they stand for. If they supported them they would not go out of their way to get them killed. "United we stand divided we fall"

That's right. Too many members of the MSM are founding members of the HATE AMERICA FIRST club. Most of them spend their time and energy trying to discredit the U.S.A. its capitalist economy and regilious freedom. They would gladly sell their souls to the devil to further their careers. Fortunately we "conservative extremists" are doing our best to stop them. Doing a d*mned good job of it, too, I might add.
As John Podhoretz writes in his column, even if the story were true, NEWSWEEK would have been inciting America's enemies had it printed it. There are many stories the MSM
spikes for one reason or other, even if they are factual.
How much more does NEWSWEEK deserve public condemnation
now that we know the story is not true.
But let's not forget one thing: Many Muslims use their
Koran's alleged teachings to justify the violence they perpetrate on Jews, Americans and other innocent people.
These barbarians deserve no sympathy from us whether or not their holy book was desecrated.
Yes, Rush was really on a roll yesterday! He came right to the edge of adopting the philosophy on Objective JournalismTM which my #7 reflects, and which I've been developing since 9/11/01 in the ongoing thread,Why Broadcast Journalism isThe transcript referenced by this thread will become "subscription only" around 6PM today when today's transcript goes up, right? I read the whole transcript, and it was very good as spoken English but not tightly structured as written English. That's natural, that is life. In the same way that it's natural for FR postings to have typos in them sometimes, even tho we do edit them. It's informal. But I read the whole transcript, and it defied easy summarization.
Unnecessary and IllegitimateIn a different part of his program he referenced a NY Times writer (Friedman?) who said that the MSM had become a political party. And that is my take, exactly. It's not a problem that a given newspaper has a political perspective, that's what the First Amendment protects. And that is exactly what the founders of the Republic actually engaged in - Hamilton and Jefferson waged their political contests in newspapers which they sponsored. In a very real sense those newspapers were the vanguard of political parties (which the framers of the Constitution had actually hoped to avoid).
But, as I noted in #7, the reality today is that the MSM coheres as a single Establishment, and that is an unfair and virulently tendentious political party. That political party is the actual leadership of the Democratic Party. And that is the real Establishment - the one which put "protesters" on TV during Vietnam in order to mouth the ridiculous notion that "the Establishment" was something which opposed the MSM.
I sincerely hope that McCain-Feingold will prove to be the Gettysburg of the MSM, its high water mark. Feingold is unconstitutional, root and branch, and I hope that it will implode before the next election and be swept away, and perhaps most of the preexisting CFR legislation with it.
bullseye bump
Media bias bump.
