Just Reported -- Frist and Reid broke off filibuster negotiations tonight -- Both said, "stick a fork in it, we're done" (or words to that effect).
Reid is quoted as saying that Frist wanted "all or nothing." Hmm -- sounds good to me!
Wednesday is D-Day. Better start loading up Fat Man and Little Boy! We're going thermonuclear!

If that is the case then they need to force a real live honest filibusters, not these funky gentleman's filibusters. Isn't filibustering intended to get the publics attention...not quietly shut things down?
In for a dime, in for a dollar, so to speak.

I didn't notice that until you mentioned it. It does look just like a propane tank.

"but if the filibuster option is still available when it comes time to block the Supreme Court nominee, then the Reps would look bad for attempting to bypass it at that time." I think the Pubbies will take their hit either way, either now or then, but if you see it as less of a hit now, I'm all for pulling the trigger now anyway. This way (now vs later when a scotus position becomes open) we probably have the votes, and there may not be any openings until after '06, and who knows how that will be? DO IT NOW!

No, the filibuster was always intended to shut things down. Only Hollywood could make it look intersting. Also, the new rules are what prevents the old fashioned kind.

Look, in the entire history of the Senate, no party, NO PARTY AT ALL has ever used a quasi filibuster to quash judicial nominees. This tactic is something not only new, but reprehensible and future GOP Senators should NOT ever try to use it against the Dem president. There are other ways to derail presidential nominees; should the need arise. Look at how Abe Fortis's nomination was handled.

But bet the duck was better than the crow that the LOSER will be eating later.

That is good. Shows Frist has his head on straight. The problem, however, is that the dems are working on getting 6 RINOs to not support Frist and go for some phoney "deal". That is what we have to fear.
