Sony Corp. unveiled three flavors of its new PlayStation 3 video game machine Monday in what is likely a new round of console wars with rivals Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co.
The new machine, set for release in the spring of 2006, is about the same size as the current generation PlayStation 2 but has a more rounded look. Besides black, the PS3 will be available in silver and white.
Sony officials said the PS3's new processor technology called Cell will offer high performance for movie-like realism in games, high-definition movies and other features.
"The PS3 is truly is a system to be placed in the center of the living room," said Ken Kutaragi, creator of the original PlayStation console as well as the more recent PlayStation Portable handheld.
Prices or a specific lineup of games that will be available were not were not provided, though Sony showed off numerous demonstrations of games in development.

Sony person: "We have plain old black and white, and for those of you who are indecisive, silver!" LOL.
I think they should stay with black, but that's just me. :) White looks like toothpaste to me, and silver is a bad attempt to look cool. Black all the way, baby. :))
I believe it. My cousin Cindy and her husband bought a new home in the Natomas area in Sacto, CA for 284. Two years later a home with the same plan as theirs sold for 700,000.
It looks WAY over the top. I don't like the game play on Madden as much as ncaa. I bought the first Madden Football back in 1990{?} when it was on sega genesis.
My hubby got me this computer so he could lay claim to the remote to his 55". ADHD too, although we've never seen anything in ADHD.
Does your gfriend read FR?
Get Dish.
That's where I first learned the "Dragnet" theme song....
Pitfall, Commando, Sea Battle, Ice Trek, that one Dragon game I can't remember the title of.
For NES, I always got a laugh from the first Metal Gear from the 80's..."The truck have started to move"..."I feel asleep"
Ahhhhhh, life is good.
Well yeah... and "SUPER TECHMO BOWL" was great for NES, but we advance.
"BASEBALL" for ATARII was great. I love hitting that square dot, with my man made of two rectangles, two sqaures, and a circle. Sure it was 2-dimentional, and the only 'homerun' indicator was the 'tone' of the hit.
But we advance.
Now we have 3d (and will be 4-d in the next 10yrs).. the video game industry already surpasses ALL OF HOLLWOOD industry (without a wimper of fanfare).
But companeis like Sony see it... PC enthusiests see it... its just a question of when the "non-nerds" catch up to how cool we are ;)
Yeah, and I had to read it again after I picked myself up off the floor. :-)
Not one FReeper knows what "Oggin'" is. That's sad.
LOL! You can almost see it..."I think I'm only winning every game because you guys' hands shake so badly. What am I paying you scientists for?"
Isn't it a city in Utah?
As a sidenote... I'm thinking of moving to Thailand, and developing an emulator to run on PS3 that will run all older games.
Basically I'll rip off the existing emulators for the PC that work for NES, SNES, N64, SEGA (MASTER/GENESIS/MASTER), GAMEBOY/Advance, C64, PS, PS2, XBOX, etc... that ALL already run on the PC.
Sure Sony will sue.. but in those 'shady states' I can make some SERIOUS dough... for a while
Whos in? ;)
We have dish. We got a brochure from a cable company that offered ADHD channels only. They were three fourths sports channels. Very pricey to boot.
Deja Vu and it's twin Shadowgate.
Didn't care much for the Uninvited though. That was too hard since I always went nuts and died.
