This is too little too late. The damage has already been done! What were they thinking? I know they wanted to bash the President but don't they have the knowledge to check things out before publishing them? In my genealogy research, we try our best to get dates, locations, relationships, etc right the first time. They should do the same.

Question is - can they also retract the death(s) (present and future) that their article caused?

"Don' think so......"

Its being reported that all affected families get a free lifetime subscription and a sports bag.

Question: Given the story was retracted, is Newsweek obligated to protect the source of this false story?

We all know it anyway...Al Jazeera.

"Liberals": savage bigots who hate their country and lie for sport.
They've gotten away with this kind of stuff for 40 years. The worm has definitely turned for lefty journalists.

"Whoever was just on Fox said that journalists have a duty to report the news, but no DUTY TO REPORT THE TRUTH."

And he got it exactly right. Newsweek owes the American people an apology, not just those in Afghanistan who flew off the handle and caused the deaths of 17 individuals. The repercussions of Newsweek's idiocy could be lasting and severe.

The liberal left in this country has been responsible for the deaths of far too many Americans already. Their desire to shoot off their mouths with anti-American sentiment not only feeds the flame abroad, it provides the kindling and the matches. Americans die.

That would help, if you could find a fair judge and jury, and if they were sued into bankruptcy.

If every one of those clowns who said he was moving to Canada DID move there, the Canadians would have put up the wall we keep saying we need on the Mexican border. The Canadian version of FR would be crammed with articles about lazy, pot-smoking Americans who come to Canada to live off the state.

Should that read "Inventive Correspondent," for accuracy?

The msm is dieing,thank God!

Here's how a real reporter used to cover a war.

"The liberation of Paris"
"A rifle bullet just whistled by and people are crouching down with their shoulders below the wall of the iron fence across the street from us." (Paris, August 25, 1944)(click to listen)

Who knows if there even was a source? I wouldn't put it past them.

If there is, I'd sure like to know who it is.

"our previous policies have made it perfectly plausible.' That's the deeper issue here...." Mark Whitaker, Newseek

- This is an amazing statement. Said another way, "our low journalistic standards make a false story plausable to the ignorant reader". - TheCrusader

True. But I think he was really trying to say "We've gotten away with it before. The big question is 'why didn't we get away with it this time?'"

CNN's Frank Sesno says NEWSWEEK has handled this extremely well.

That's why CNN is getting it's butt kicked in the ratings too. They haven't a clue!

On DU, they've decided that they will believe the story no matter what.
They are also sure ("I have no evidence, but I am positive!") that the Bush family has threatened certain people with death should they refuse to retract this story.
I love reading things over there. It makes my nutty acquaintences seems so relatively grounded.

Actually I like to think I'm on the far right of the political spectrum and a little bit on the edge at times. Then I read DU and feel like a moderate :)
