UNITED NATIONS — Two European politicians received millions of barrels of Iraqi oil in exchange for their support of Saddam Hussein's regime, a U.S. Senate committee probing corruption in the U.N. Oil-for-Food program found.

The report, released late Wednesday, accused British lawmaker George Galloway (search) and former French Interior Minister Charles Pasqua (search) accepted oil allocations under the Oil-for-Food scheme.

The allegations against the the two men, outspoken opponents of U.N. sanctions against Iraq in the 1990s, are not new. What is new is the documentation that the committee offered, which it said proves the misconduct.

"This report exposes how Saddam Hussein turned the Oil-for-Food program on its head and used the program to reward his political allies like Pasqua and Galloway,"

I personally believe that some of the money for the United Nations oil for food program was used in support of the terriorists that did 9/11 in New York City.

Many of us thought this was probably the case two years ago, and knew it for sure about a year ago when the Iraquis recovered and released the documentation.

An old article from Fox News says, "Reps. Jim McDermott of Seattle, David Bonior of Michigan and Mike Thompson of California were due to return Tuesday night after a visit organized by Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Interfaith Network of Concern for the People of Iraq. Rep. Nick Rahall of West Virginia was in Iraq earlier in a trip was sponsored by the San Francisco-based Institute for Public Accuracy, a consortium of policy researchers."

I believe that it is true that Scott Ritter admitted he was paid with oil allocations from Iraq.

I recall reading that visiting foreigners received allocations and were able to sell the oil to international traders for between 10 cents and 30 cents per barrel. A 1m-barrel allocation could net as much as $300,000 in profit.

The international traders swarmed over the hotels where these friends of Saddam stayed while they "smelled the alleys" of Baghdad.

Then Senator, now Energy Secretary, Spencer Abraham received $250 in 1999

Detroit Democrat John Conyers received $1,000 in 1999. (Conyers introduced a bill in the House to end economic sanctions against Iraq in March 2000)

Michigan Republican Joe Knollenberg received $1,000 in 1998.

The Arab American PAC received $500 in 2002, while James Zogby's Arab American Leadership Council PAC received $5,000 in 2000.
