From WNBC television: Apparently no fatalities known at this time. GWBridge inbound is NOT closed...

Scary! I, too, hope no motorists are trapped beneath that mountain of dirt.
Time for a few prayers.

Wow! The Henry Hudson Parkway is a beautiful drive up the west side on NY, past the George Washington Bridge and into the Boogie-down Bronx. It is quite old so I have to assume it's a failure of the retaining wall. I hope no one was hurt.

No problem.

From the WNBC website:
A major traffic delay is being reported on the West Side Highway and Henry Hudson Parkway between the George Washington Bridge and 181st Street due to a possible wall collapse or a possible debris landslide at 1380 Riverside Dr. and 181 Street.
The traffic isn't gonna be pretty, that's for sure...

You think a H2 could climb that? Maybe a H1...

OMG... We travel this route at least a few times each month. This looks like a California mudslide!
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.

That is one of the great drives in the metro area. Take it all the way up to Sleepy Hollow, stop at Washington Irving's house in Sunnyside on the way.

I wonder how they know no one is under that pile of dirt?
As the crow flies, how far is that from, say, the Empire State Building?

In Manhattan travel terms, it's a good distance north. Geographically, it's about 8 miles in a straight line.
