Jennifer Wilbanks, the runaway bride whose disappearance triggered a nationwide search, has entered a voluntary medical treatment program.
According to a statement from the family's church, "Ms. Wilbanks entered a highly regarded, inpatient treatment program on her own volition to address physical and mental issues which, she believes, played a major role in her 'running from herself' as she described in a public statement last week."
Wilbanks entered the program late Monday. The location of the program and suggested duration of treatment was not disclosed.
Wilbanks was already undergoing professional treatment. On May 5, the pastor for the Wilbanks family, Dr. Tom Smiley, read a statement from Jennifer Wilbanks. In the statement, Wilbanks said she, "started professional treatment voluntarily," for the problems that led her to run away.
Dr. Smiley said the treatment was "professional therapy with certified, competent professionals." Smiley did not go into details about the treatment.
Wilbanks, 32, touched off an extensive search in April when she disappeared after leaving her Duluth, Ga., home for a jog just four days before her scheduled wedding.
Wilbanks turned up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She told police she had been abducted, but she later told authorities she took a bus to Las Vegas and then Albuquerque on her own.
That makes a lot of since.$1000/day treatment program or the outside chance of a misdomeaner charge of making a false report that reulted in no action on police's part.
Why do you keep making statements like this? This is the example of a close and caring church in the South. Yes, there are cult-like churches, but I've seen none of that in what we've seen. Dr. Smiley appears to be a caring person who has consented to be media spokesman. I'm sure that the Wilbanks family wants it that way. He is a public speaker by profession and that is intimidating for a lot of people. So it seems to be very natural to ask your pastor to do that. Biblical churches are communities and care for one another. Where's the similarity to a cult?
I said this when she showed up a couple of weeks ago: If her fiance thinks a marriage with her will work, he's more nuts than she is.
Oh we'd say she's barmy. Which she is.
She's just getting her 15 minutes of fame in my view. The problem is that it's much more than 15 minutes. And at the moment I'm staying in a place that has Fox News - I would really rather not be seeing this.

Meant to ask, before your recent "walkabout" (hehehe) did the Runaway Bride story get a lot of play over there..?
A careful reading of this piece coupled with decades of being around people in the "caring professions" leads me to believe this is psycho-babble code for drug or alcohol treatment.
Whether she's a drunk or not, entering treatment to cope with stress-induced benders will look good.
I would rather see her simply apologize and volunteer for community service among local law enforcement.
Incoming inpatient ping!
"Because they seem to be in a cult like church and she was most likely trying to escape."
I presume you mean to use your biblical expertise to explain what makes this a cult?
There is a reason Ms. Wilbanks has not spoken herself and only through an attorney and church leaders through written statements, without question prepared by them for her.
I strongly suspect the reason is they will not let her speak for fear of what she might say or how she will answer questions on her own.
Also, this is the 3rd time she has bailed on a wedding. Something strang is going on there.
Not on British news...there was a bit about it on Sky. However, my parents have a dish and get Fox News, which I watch religiously when I visit. I look forward to getting "the good stuff" and seeing Ann Coulter, etc. - and what do I get...runaway barmy brides!
Regards, Ivan
We got in-patient treatment centers for whatever ails ya. Very posh, very expensive, and very exclusive!
You'll see it on Fox News until the rest of the Fox News viewers in the states TURN OFF THEIR TV SETS every time that story airs. The requisite drop in ratings for that time period of the day would be a warning to the executives to provide more complete stories of things that actually matter to american citizens.
Panic/ anxiety disorder?
"Something strang is going on here"
I know it was just a misspelling but I find it a little appropriate in this context. Read about this "Strang" fellow.

Runaway barmy bride is at least a break from intentionally facially deformed child molester trial.
You have an over-active imagination.
>There is a reason Ms. Wilbanks has not spoken herself and only through an attorney and church leaders through written statements, without question prepared by them for her.<
You obviously do not have a wife or children. No caring husband would throw a wife or child to the wolves of the media. She owes the public no explanation. She has apoligized and is seeking treatment. We are intitled to no further info.
>Also, this is the 3rd time she has bailed on a wedding. Something strang is going on there.<
Source other than rumor mill or your fertile mind please.
He's got Joe Biden disease.
I wish her well also!
