A man in a minivan attempted to abduct a girl in Westchester County while she was jogging yesterday afternoon, but she was able to escape after two Verizon workers who happened to be nearby chased the suspect, one of the workers said.
The police in White Plains confirmed that they were investigating an attempted abduction, but provided no further details last night.
Pat Martimucci, a Verizon service technician who was driving a Verizon van, said that he had just entered Clinton Street when he noticed the girl, who he said was 10 or 11.
"She was walking around the block," he said. "She started to scream: 'Help me! Help me!' she yelled."
Mr. Martimucci said he asked her if she was all right, and that she said, "No, someone's trying to get me." Mr. Martimucci said he then saw a white minivan on Clinton Street drive away. He said he and his co-worker, who was driving a truck with a cherry picker, chased the minivan.
Mr. Martimucci's van was parked in the opposite direction of the minivan, and he took another street, thinking he might cut off the driver in the neighborhood, which has many cul-de-sacs. His colleague in the cherry picker truck could not keep up with the minivan, he said.
While the men gave chase, someone in the house where they were working called 911 and watched the girl until the police arrived.
Let us hope this creep is arrested.
Guess these guys didn't remember that before giving chase the most useful thing to do is get a make, model and license plate number?
Cnn, Foxnews, Msnbc deeply sadened. Now they have to find something else to talk about for th enext 2 months.
Somebody in the neighborhood saw it....
The detectives will get more info..
May God Bless you, Mr. Martimucci!
Nuff said...
Yes, God Bless Mr. Marimucci but I fear that no good was done. If they catch the guy, his lawyer will say that he was only trying to ask the girl for directions and she misunderstood him and then a crazy guy in a Verizon cherry-picker started chasing him so he ran away in self-defense.
Then, the child molester will find another victim and we'll all be crying about it next month.
America today. Watch out for your children because the legal system is not.
Hey, isn't there a coming battle involving the supreme court?... Let your wimpy senators know how you feel.
She was LUCKY!
Thank God!
Make sure you let your kids never to jog or play on Clinton St.
My kids would have bitten the guy (Woof!)
