Physical fitness has no place in public education.
It certainly is useless for a girl who has lettered in three (THREE!) varsity sports.
Seems to me this young lady gets plenty of exercise.
I never quite understood why eight semesters of gym are required for HS graduation. I'm not even sure eight semesters of ENGLISH are required anymore.

If these fatso had taken gym, instead of chorus, perhaps they would not now look like small houses with feet.
This impudent young lady should have dropped chorus and taken gym.
Properly conducted, it's not, but few are properly conducted. But for some who "holds varsity letters in three sports", it certainly wouldn't seem necessary.

True,but it doesn't HAVE to be.Nowadays its just"take roll and throw the balls out".Most kids just"kick it"in the bleachers or sit against the wall BSing.No organized physical activities to speak of.Truly a waste.
At my old high school in the Sixties we WORKED.You ran,swam,boxed,wrestled,weight lifted and played soccer,softball,golf,tennis and golf for six weeks each.We were in SHAPE at the end of the year.
It is very important for a young person to strive for physical,intellectual and spiritual excellence.A balance is critical.A good PE program can be a huge asset in a youngsters developement.

Very true. Not enough time or activity in a week to make a difference. I hated gym in the 60s, didn't get more than a C in any semester except for the swimming and lifesaving semesters (I already had the red cross swimming and lifesaving certs). My arrogant gym teacher told me that I'd never make it through Marine Corps training, I was "too weak". It was the source of a great deal of satisfaction going to see him on leave after completing boot camp and infantry training and rubbing his nose in it. The problem always was him and the class itself.
I skipped "required" gym courses two semesters, once in junior high and once in high school. The former was verbally "approved" even though "the law" said I had to take it; in the latter case I simply ignored it to take a more interesting class, and they never noticed or cared.
once you hit high school, yes, thanks to extracurricular sports programs. But P.E. and gym would be great things to be reinstituted in most elementary schools. Maybe our youngest generation wouldn't be growing so chunky if the schools let them out of their desks for a while, like they used to when I was growing up. I bet it'd help calm the ADD/ADHD kids down a bit, too, if you let them burn off some steam, instead of medicating them into submission.
Your attitude is why there are so many fat, FAT kids running around today.
What are you talking about man...I learned to square dance in high school gym!
