Director STEVEN SPIELBERG wept at a premiere of pal GEORGE LUCAS' final STAR WARS movie EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH.
JURASSIC PARK film-maker, Spielberg was so moved by the eagerly-awaited conclusion of the sci-fi saga, he burst into tears at its screening last week.
But he's unashamed by his tears, insisting fans will also cry at the end of the film, because its moving conclusion marks the end of Lucas' epic story.
Spielberg says, "I saw it about a week ago, and it's absolutely amazing.
"It's the best of the last three episodes. It's the best way you could possibly imagine for George to finish it off, it has a tremendous ending and it's very dark. You'll cry at the end, it's wonderful."
I still don't understand who defines success? What you like or $200 million in box office receipts? I am not sure about WOTW...but I bet you dollar to a doughnut that Star Wars will be very successful. It will most likely be tghe biggest office draw of the year and will probably net $500 million world wide. It will be a success.
Not just Hayden Christisn. Natalie Portman's acting was not very impressive either.
I cried after watching Episode 1.
Was it that bad?
Indeed. George Lucas had real no conrol over Empire Strikes Back, that was handled by Eric Kirshner. As a result it was the most sucessful of all the Star Wars movies to date.
I never played Knights of the Old Republic. I played the entire Jedi Knight series, Shadows of the Empire and X-Wing Alliance.
What ever happened to Episodes 7, 8, and 9?
Quote:
It's the best of the last three episodes.
Me:
Well, that isn't exactly saying much, now is it?
"George Lucas had no real control over Empire Strikes Back, that was handled by Eric Kirshner (sic)."
Irving Kershner was the director of Empire, but Lucas had final cut. He and Kershner worked very closely together.
I especially liked the slave girl with braces in episode one and the fat Hindu naboo queen in two.
LOL!
Eric Kirshner? Is that Irvin's evil twin?
uh, the definition of dork is a whale penis. hahahaha
Sorry forgot the exact name.
Well it doesn't surprise me that Spielberg would cry at something like this. Spielberg and Lucas (and many film makers) share something in common: they have stories they want to tell. Sometimes the stories are developed by scriptwriters and urged upon them by the studios. Some stories they (Spielberg and Lucas) have carried within them for years. It matters not one whit if the general consensus is that the story told on film is superior, good, average, sub-standard or simply sucks.
The fact is that the director is telling the story. If people like the way the story is told, the movie will do well. But the fact is, the responsibility of the story belongs to the director who puts their name on the finished product. They have the right to tell the story any damn way they want, and we the public have the right to either patronize their creation or reject it. And as in all business, 'the bottom line' is the bottom line.
The success of Star Wars from a purely commercial perspective speaks for itself, the naysayers notwithstanding.
Star Wars is, at it's core a story of a boy (Anakin)who starts life with the deck stacked against him, is manipulated by others with ulterior motives, he subsequently makes wrong choices his entire life, and then at the end, when faced with the ultimate evil (the Emperor in the process of killing Luke, who is crying out for help to his father "Please!!!"), the boy-turned-man-turned-evil-machine-hybrid finally tries to set things right, by killing the Emperor knowing that it will cost him his own life. Luke lifts the helmet/mask from his father's head and says "I won't leave you here, I'll save you like you saved me" and Anakin, old, scarred, tired and gasping his last breath says "you already have Luke, you already have."
Now if that isn't one of the most tearjerking scenes, I don't know what is. It speaks to the triumph and tragedy that frequently co-exist in a life. It might be your life, it might be mine. Or someone we know. Or will never know. But it happens just that way.
Lucas has told his story, and he has told it well.
So am I. The whole tripod martian war machine concept is so much scarier than the 'flying' craft in 1955 film. If it follows the book (the Curate, Thunderchild, handling machines, etc.), it will be cool!
The Return of the Sith is going to tank according to you ? Please, it will rake in at least 350 million worldwide
Heard it was bad from whom ? LOL
Its gotten great reviews.
I said something about Return of the Sith?
Instead of a third trilogy, Lucas is going to remake the originals... All starring Jar Jar.
Some highlights
"Theesa is not da droids you be lookin for."
"Luke, meesa is you fadda."
A grow man crying about imaginary characters in a SCI-FI Fantasy movie? I think Stevie fits Arnold's definition of a "Girlie Man"
