Not for nothing, but they should just ban most high school marching bands. Lack of talent is the norm. P-U.
The main reason why the lines for toilets are so long at halftime.
Why do these stories always have that line in them? ONE idiot parent has a problem with someone else doing something so EVERYONE must conform to their wishes.
If said parent has such a problem with the lyrics to a song that will not be sung...let them keep their child home that day. Sheesh.
Re: "Paula Dawning cited the song's allegedly raunchy lyrics"
Raunchy? How on earth would anyone know?
Wow..what a wierd marching band! And to think...our band (I was in it) only played the TUNES...we didn't sing the "raunchy" lyrics like this band does (it must right? Why else does it matter?)
Hell, we even played a song named "Tequila!" And I'm sure that wasn't about wholesome feel good teen activities...

From a web page I googled:
Just what was Jack Ely saying when he sang Louie, Louie? Well, as originally written by Richard Berry, here it is:
Fine little girl she waits for me
Me catch the ship for cross the sea
Me sail the ship all alone
Me never think me make it home
Louie, Louie, me gotta go
Louie, Louie, me gotta go
Three nights and days me sail the sea
Me think of girl constantly
On the ship I dream she there
I smell the rose in her hair
Louie, Louie, me gotta go
Louie, Louie, me gotta go
Me see Jamaica moon above
It won't be long, me see my love,
I take her in my arms and then
Me tell her I never leave again
Louie, Louie, me gotta go
Louie, Louie, me gotta go
Seems innocent enough to me. If somebody else added a few dirty lyrics later, I don't see why that should put the song out of bounds.
My favorite version was done by Black Flag. I believe Rhino put out "The Best of Louie Louie" in TWO volumes that included the original by Richard Berry, and covers by everyone from the Kingsmen to the Sandpipers, from the Kinks to the Rice Marching Band. I defy you to get the song out of your head after sitting through those!
Lol, this song is banned, but was it yesterday I read how a Cop was teaching kids how too make meth in a class room....... Oy Vey!!!!
Jeff
The best-known, most notorious version was a hit in 1963 for the Kingsmen; the FBI spent two years investigating the lyrics before declaring they not only were not obscene but also were "unintelligible at any speed."
***
Taxpayer dollars were spent for the FBI to investigate the lyrics to the song? Geez...they could have saved the money...any one of us could have told them it was unintelligible. LOL
I am banned from singing any song in my house.
I remember on KLIF in Dallas one Saturday this DJ locked himself in the studio and played the song and only that song all day long, this was back in the early 70s.
A fine use of taxpayer dollars.
Louie, Louie
The Kingsmen
Music & Lyrics : Richard Berry
Notes : Performed by "Chuck Berry" (1955).
There are more than 1000 interpretations
(one by Hell's Angels and another with dogs barking)
CHORUS:
Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
CHORUS
Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.
CHORUS
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
GUITAR SOLO
See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again
CHORUS
Let's take it on outa here now
Let's go!!
