The largest party has to make deals with the small minority parties to build a government. In this case, Labour would have to agree to some Lib Dem demands in order to form a ministry with Lib Dem support.
To: jneesy
Hung (minority) parliament. 2 or more parties can form a coalition to govern if they have enough seats, or the party with the most seats can try to govern on a vote-by-vote basis. However, that puts up the risk of losing a confidence vote, which means an instant loss of power (either a party change or an election).

Don't forget, the Northern Ireland SDLP (Social Democratic and Labour) tends to side with Labour, and they will likely get 5-7 seats, so if Labour is really close, they would form a coalition...
To: Heartofsong83
...a much reduced majority (even if they get one) Is this because of anger at Tony Blair supporting Bush on Iraq?

Correct, after all Tories = Republicans. Tories rock.
To: jneesy
You get either an official or unofficial coalition. In the 70s the Labour party held government with a pact with the Libs, John Major held office in the later years with an unspoken agreement with the Ulster Unionists.
To: Ciexyz
Correct but many forecasted a Tory meltdown which has not occurred.

WOW!!! this will be something.
I like Tony Blair because he has been our great friend, but at the same time as a conservative I want my fellow British conservatives to win or at least gain more seats.

Primarily yes. However, the Conservatives are gaining on 3-way splits and a few extra votes here and there.
To: Heartofsong83
Correct, after all Tories = Republicans.
Umm...not quite. The Tories' website does not mention abortion or gay marriage. They're totally a non-social-issue party at this point. Wouldn't make most Republicans roll out of bed on a Saturday morning and go door-to-door.
To: SevenofNine
That's because he IS Saddam's b*tch!
To: Ciexyz
Is this because of anger at Tony Blair supporting Bush on Iraq? This is my question, too. Is this vote a referendum on Iraq or social issues?
To: hispanichoosier
They'll get there once those become bigger issues, especially gay marriage.
To: jveritas
I think it probably will be between 70 and 80 I felt a good result for us would be 60 which I hoped for last night I may still get my wish.
