It would be a whole lot more expensive if the court had ruled in a way that forced the state (read, the taxpayers) to finance this girl's unwanted baby for next few decades (because a baby who got started like this is nearly certain to remain in state care -- either welfare or prison -- for much of it's adult life, in addition to spending its first 18 years on some sort of welfare and/or state-funded foster care). I sure don't want to be financing endless generations of these people.

What on earth makes you think she knows who the father is? This is an unwanted 13 year old girl who was running loose for at least a month with no one looking for her (how long do you think it takes one of the local pimps to get hold of a girl in that situation?), in addition to spending time in group foster homes, where inmates are routinely raped by other inmates, as well as staff. There are probably dozens of possible fathers, most of whose full or real names she never knew.

She did have a 28 year old boyfriend at one time. Yuck. Who knows if it's him, but she's not saying.

Actually the state DID release her into the wild to fend for herself for at least a month, and it won't be the last time.

I think you confuse the word "right" with "legal". The judge may have made the "legal" descision but legal isn't right.

I have an easy solution to this.

I would wager that either Jeb or even W could meet with the girl in person, introduce her to a crisis pregnancy counselor (I use to be one) and talk her out of it.

Problem solved.

For a thirteen year old, the risk of physical harm from an abortion is certainly less than the risk from carrying a pregnancy to term.

In the state of Florida, a minor has the right to choose an abortion without the knowledge of her parents. The judge ruled that there is nothing in Florida law which gives DCF rights to interfere, that parents wouldn't have.

That is pretty scary!
You hear everyone talk about the emotional scars of a thirteen year old having to have an abortion. I wonder what about the opposite. What is the emotional toll on a thirteen year old being forced to carry and deliver a child that she does not necessarily want. Try as many want to believe, abortion is not a black and white issue. Very little in life is. I do not believe that is should be taken lightly. But, I believe that there are cases when it is the right thing for some people to do. Of course the self righteous "Culture Of Life" cultists will have a cow when they read that.

One thing the Terri Schiavo travesty did for me was open my eyes to Roe v. Wade. I was too young to witness the debate that must have surrounded it. But I lived throught the Terri Schiavo case, and so I imagine that Roe v. Wade must have had a similar impact on the nation.

But the Terri Schiavo starvation didn't occur in a doctor's office, out of sight, and it wasn't over in a few minutes. The whole world watched it and it went on for weeks. It was almost like a fully visible abortion occuring in slow motion.

So, all this to say that I guess I'm not surprised about this disturbing case, because it is, to me, just another form of the Terri Schiavo case -- state sanctioned violent assault on the defenseless with intent to murder.

If there is a God, and if He does judge nations, wouldn't that be a cause of concern just now?

Families, would be lining up to adopt this baby, if they could.

Sure, there's a huge supply of good adoptive homes waiting to adopt premature black babies born to a 13 year old and probably sired by a child rapist. Fat chance. If the baby had been born, it would have ended up in the same foster "care" system that didn't bother looking for its 13 year old mother when she disappeared for a month, and got pregnant.

SHE may have called him a "boyfriend". I'd call him something very different.

I will concede to you that may indeed be so.

You may not be a believer, but the mother of Jesus was probably about 14, and in some cultures, it is common to begin having children at those ages.

The risk factor doesn't negate that a small life will be snuffed out though. There are greater risk pregnancies for some mature women, depending on the situation.

Careful. That's what the leftist activist judges and their supporters say, when the judges issue rulings that completely ignore the law and/or the Constitution.

Juvenile Judge Ronald Alvarez (search) on Monday ruled that the teen, who has been in state custody for four years, would not be physically or emotionally harmed by the procedure.

I guess if she does get injured physically during the procedure or has emotional problems later in life because of this, the judge will hold the girl in contempt.

What a ruling.

I take it you have already adopted a premature black baby that was born to an adolescent girl and probably sired by a child rapist? No? Why not? There are plenty available, languishing in hospitals (not because they're sick, but because there's nowhere for them to go) and in foster homes just as nice as the one this girl was in. And there are no waiting lists to adopt one of them.

Those are the same cultures in which adolescent girls are forced to marry older men, and nobody really cares if they die from complications of childbirth.
