United States Attacked

Val Kilmer-in London to star onstage in 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'--has been trashing Americans, saying they are ignorant and illiterate.

Asked how British audiences compare to American ones, Kilmer told the London Sun Newspaper, 'They are smarter. They read books.'

Kilmer then berated Broadway for becoming too 'Vegas like.'

I have to respectfully disagree with you. While I think that many American children have been dumbed down due to the sorry state of our public schools, we are still a country that has prospered based upon our ingenuity. We have some of the greatest minds in the world here and I for one am sick and tired of being compared to the Europeons (spelled correctly). While many American's loathe the thought of sitting through an aria in Aida we are cultured in other ways. This country was founded by people escaping persecution....not the kings and queens of high society. Our culture is in our heritage......the deep south's plantations, the old west's gold mines, the great mines and ports of the north. While you may think that's uncultural, I think it speaks volumes about the work ethic and determination of our people as opposed to the laziness and self centeredness of the European elite.

Thats because homeless people do not have cars. Our library has to let the pee smelling homeless in and let them make believe they can read.

Although I do wish he and other Americans would stop bashing their country on foreign soil there must be some truth to the statement. Otherwise I would not be having people tell me how smart I am. All I do is read from time to time.

Kilmer is correct about Americans. His only error is in thinking that Brits are any smarter.

Speaking of idiot actors, did anyone catch Rosie O'Donnell playing herself in her biography last night? (I think it was called "Riding The Bus With My Sister" on CBS)

I saw it as I was flipping channels. It wasn't much of a reach for her, to quote Buck Owens:

I'll play the part but I won't need rehearsing
All I have to do is act naturally

Good Morning.

I guess you haven't seen Tombstone or Heat, have you.
Kilmer's Doc Holliday was classic.

We see threads here every day about the dumbing down of Americans by the public school establishment so we know there is a large dose of truth in what he says.

True or not I don't understood why the opinion of someone who earns their living by pretending to be someone else is supposed to be important.

"Alas, Mr. Kilmer is correct. The first step in recovery is to admit that you have a problem. Americans are not well-educated, and they have (by and large) no cultural foundation."

Americans are too busy working themselves to death to support welfare leeches, criminals, and three fourths of the Third World.

I saw about as much of RosieO' as diving for the remote allowed and was reminded of the lyric:
"And all I gotta do is, act natcherly."

Actually, I really enjoyed him as Doc Holiday in Tombstone.. He also did a pretty good job in that Doors movie.

Yes, but I always find it strange that actors that make their living playing to the 'Wild West' type of characters the kind of characters that don't wait around for Lawyers and Judges to tell them what to do. Are the ones that lead the charge against America looking after its own self interest.

He's right about Broadway, too.

Not when they are not there to read. They are there to get inside. I for one, do not want some sterno drinking bum, stinking of urine next to my child when she is looking at books. You may want your child to sit on their laps during story hour but that is up to you as a parent.
