If Kilmer is referring to those Americans who watch "reality shows" and Oprah, I could understand where he's coming from. And (c)rap music isn't exactly our finest export to the world, either. But I suspect that isn't where he's coming from.

True, I once bet my history teacher, who I was aiding in my last semester as a senior in HS, $5 that somebody would miss Louisiana, the state I live in, on the map test. I picked up the fiver.

There are ignorant people in this country, as there are in any. But for him to go to Europe and disparage us just to sell tickets reminds me of what Natalie Maines did a few years ago with the Dixie Chicks. Their record sales have gone into the toilet.

I've always like Val Kilmer because he was funny in "Real Genius" and stole the show as Doc Holliday in "Tombstone". But bashing America is not a good idea for selling tickets. Just ask the Dixie Chicks...

consider how far he has fallen.

He seems to never get the nodd for any sequel.

perhaps what he is saying is that he only attracts stupid people and the smart people avoid him.

I also think it is ironic he is talking about NY stage audiences.

Val Kilmer....has been trashing American [audiences], saying they are ignorant and illiterate.

He may be right -- I saw Michael Kinsley once at the intermission between acts at the Kennedy Center.

Channel surfing the other day lead to my discovery of Val Kilmer reading "scripture" on TV. I think it was Scientology.

if one country is reading books like "Bush the Nazi" and the other is watching "South Park", who is the more educated?

Depends if they 'get' SouthPark. ;-)

Yeah, Americans have no foundation. Except for that Freedom thing. Oh, and the silly free-capitalistic society that has raised the quality of life and financial means of most countries on the planet.

But we're just a bunch of rubes like you and Val say, I guess.

Not this crap again.

It is obvious that the majority of Americans aren't brilliant but what would you all expect?

The majority of Europeans think we run around the streets gunning each other down wearing our cowboy hats as well. What does that tell you about how "well-educated" the Europeans are?

All of our dumbest, most banal pop culture turns more of a profit over there then it does here. Something like, I don't know... the movie Alexander perhaps?

The Europeans are very rich in culture. They all have a biased, distorted view of themselves and their countries place in history (Pick any European country you like.)

Now they are killing themselves and WE are the stupid ones? When Europe isn't fighting others, they are preening moralists who will kill themsleves just to prove a point. The ironic thing is they have fallen so far in so short a period of time, that they don't even fully realize it yet.

There are stupid people in the US. They are called Lefties and they want the US to be just like Europe. Now, THAT would be stupid.

Arioch7 out!

Let's see - I would say that both British and American audiencs are stupid if they go to see Val Kilmer in either a movie or a play.

FYI, Kilmer has a mega ranch very close to Don Imus's ranch in New Mexico. I wonder if he thinks the ranch hands who run his place are ignorant and illiterate as well.

But judging America by, say, The Jerry Springer show is like the blind man grabbing the elephant's tail and concluding that an elephant is like a snake.

That's because we are spending entirely too much money on education. If people poured money into a business and got a shitty product in the end they would hire and fire people. We spend a lot of our money on these schools and there is no one holding them accountable. Politicians talk like they are but that's just to calm the herd.

Wonder how he would feel if he suddenly couldn't get a job because no one would go to his movies?

I read books. I don't go to the movies, though.

Hmmm... Maybe Val has a point. That IS smarter.
