I was listening to the talking head of Katie Couric's this morning, and she was interviewing Gwinnett County District Attorney Daniel Porter. I wasn't paying too close attention, but I heard her ask something about getting Miss Wilbanks some psychiatric help... and I heard is response as "You cannot help someone until you get them under the control of the courts."
Oh my - tell us what you really think!
But seriously, I don't know the details of Georgia, New Mexico, or Federal law, so I don't know what crime(s) she can be charged with. But her actions were incredibly selfish and hurtful to so many people - the police, the townspeople, and her fiance and her own family. The wasted man-hours and money, and the anguish. If she couldn't take the pressure of an 800 person wedding, how does she feel about the pressure on her now? I don't know her or what she felt, but this is really irresponsible. I know the fiance said the wedding was merely "postponed," but I wouldn't expect any different announcement from him other than that he was supportive. I predict the wedding won't ever happen. Just a guess.
How many books and TV movies will come out of this, I wonder? I would hate to see this woman made out to be a hero.

She is an absolute victim of a court-system gone insane. Her life has been destroyed by a male-dominated government that systematically rapes women psychologically. She will be victimized yet again because the GROOM cannot understand his RESPONSIBILITY in all this. The problem starts and ends with him, and with men in general.
Yes she must have known someone. This story is too bizarre.
She absolutely victimized Georgia, New Mexico, and her family/fiance. She's gone insane. She's destroyed the lives of her family and fiance, and wounded us all, by being so selfish and totally without regard to others. Personally I don't care if they threw her a hundred showers. It's their right to do as such but her mindless dragging law enforcement into her drama is over the line.
If I had to guess, it's not a "comment" as much as it is a polite answer to a dumb question. Why would someone ask a DA about psychological help for something like this?
If there's any intent, it's Katie's for having a reason to ask such a question.

Of course I could have my facts wrong, but I heard they'd met a year ago, that she lived in Gainesville, he in Duluth, and she was in the process of moving her things to Duluth.
Even though "right now she is not" charged with anything, that's just one of those police fictions. There was footage of her being marched through the airport with each arm near circulation cut-off by a way-too-unnecessarily-menacing cop.
If they actually said "she is not being charged", that only means that they don't have her in the local jurisdiction yet and/or that they haven't been bribed or sweet-talked enough by the family or families -- both of which are well-to-do and I believe the father of the groom is a judge.

A guy on a local radio station speculated that some her bridesmaids were in on it (she had 14!) She sure has that wild-eyed psycho-look -- like Andrea Yates. Her fiance should thank goodness she bailed and run away as fast as he can!
If NM is not going to charge her for making that fictitious 911 call in Albuquerque I doubt she will be charged in Georgia. JMO. Cold feet is not a crime....yet.
There was speculation in one of the threads that she went to meet someone in Vegas and got stood up. Not my speculation, mind you.
