I'm wondering where she slept, too. Not being a big traveller, but thought you needed some sort of ID in order to check in to most motels/hotels.

Good cases. I'll check them. At least Selier is distingusihable. She persisted in the lie that there was an abductor.

Do you know, offhand, if the other cases continued beyond finding the "missing" person? That is, any search for a kidnapper? Any ransom actually paid?

Okay .. I checked two of the other three. My browser choked on the Palatka story.

The two girls in Hamilton made the false report, as did the bimbo from Duluth. And whatever reaction the bimbo's false report caused, she is certainly liable for that. I'm not excusing that part of her adventure (or any other part, for that matter). But I think that teh cops who took her "I was abducted" report didn't believe it, and therefore didn't act in haste on it. Plus, they had the "victim," which is first priority in an abduction anyway.

The faked kidnapping was an extortion scheme.

The bogus kidnapping last May was designed to extort $600,000 in ransom money from the parents of Renee Lam, who failed to appear at her scheduled sentencing regarding the same case this week.

Oh, here are the facts of the Palatka case ... They are easily distingushable ;-)

She claimed she'd been kidnapped and robbed of $8,000.

Investigators said she stole the money from the cash advance business where she works and gave it to a friend, Keith Williams, 26, of Palatka.

Police are still looking for Williams and the money.

Her publicist gave them to her for effect. She'll need a Clintonian damage control effort of myriad media specialists to turn this all around and get it back to where she's the victim and worthy of all due oozing sympathy.

If she is nuts, then no charges, if she is sane then charge her.

I think we're going in circles. Assume she is sane (she is). What is the charge? I concede that she lied about being abducted, but she appears to have recanted before any effort was made to locate the abductors.

She had the scary eyes going anyway. The almost husband should punt, and take the rail out of the marriage before he's stuck with that ding dong.

He needs to bail out and get away for a while. Otherwise he may get sucked back into it by his own emotions. She has proven that she is unstable.

I was wondering if they gave her one of Dr. Laura's My Stuff bags. The bags her foundation used to put together for traumatized kids had stuffed animals and blankets in them. I knew someone who knitted afghans for her bags.

I honestly hope this woman/child gets whatever help she needs out of all this and can salvage a life.
While her actions have been hurtful and irresponsible, there are other layers to this family's onion.

The real source of entertainment for me hasn't been her/their difficulties but the wit and insight on this thread :-)

Well, lucky for many pie-in-the-sky Freepers we aren't the type to say 'we told you so!' ----- But, "WE TOLD YOU SO!" ------ I'm glad she is alive but I'm glad I am right, too. The abduction story made no sense to anyone with an ounce of clarity of thought could see that! A lot of Freepers need a healthy dose of cynicism, sometimes! ;-)

Yep. See post # 359. It's been one weird day!

CNN is supposed to have a show on tonight at 8:00 called "Runaway Bride". That ought to be interesting.

In Vegas you can wander around inside of places 24/7 with being noticed. You can sit in Denny's with a cup of coffee. Who knows, I guess we'll have to wait for the movie of the week or her book and booksigning tour to find out.

It is probably safe to say that all of those types of cases had some other mitigating circumstance attached. Like this one, for example. There are no more details, but if the FBI was involved, it had to have more to it.

Lyndeborough resident makes plea agreement in kidnap hoax

Steven Bromley, 35, of Lyndeborough faces up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines after admitting he lied to an FBI agent during an investigation into a kidnapping hoax he orchestrated this summer.

It is abot time Minuteman had a rational, objective report done on them. Understand, I am not an anti-immigrant for many reasons. I am anti-illegal. So far, the Minutemen have proven to be very rational and very aware.

Is it odd that her family didn't send a change of clothes?

I don't know what I'd do.

>>>Hey smart guy, what mouthy thing do you have to say now?

I'll say I waited for the facts to come out - which they did - without engaging in any mindless hyperbole and wild-arsed speculation that in this case happened to wind up being true. It does not often turn out like this. Waiting for the truth is never wrong.
