The Zonkey is cute. Poor thing can't hide in the trees/grass as well as it's mother, though. Those stripes are there for a reason. 'Course if it's in captivity...

I was under the impression that Zebras and Donkey's were closely related, with similar temperaments.

Call It Zonkey or a Deebra?
If they can teach it to invent nonsensical news stories, they can call it Debka.

I prefer Ligers.
Hey Fierce, what was your old tag? Something about Zebras being the free range bar codes of the Serengeti?

From an onomatopoetic, aesthetic, and comedic standpoint "zonkey" beats "deebra" hands down.

Ringling Brothers has several of these animals that travel with the circus.
FWIW, they call them "Zonkeys."
I just think they're cute.

Zebras are nasty enough without putting donkey blood in them.

A mule (hybrid of a horse and ass) is un-sexed, sterile. Is this zebra/donkey cross going to be able to sire offspring?

Hmmmmm. I remember seeing one of those in my Weekly Reader when I was in first grade. That puts it around 1973/74. I remember back then, they gave her the name "Debra" for Donkey/zEBRA, so I guess at that time, they called them "Deebras." "Zonkey" would be cool too but it reminds me of the old Monty Hall show, "Let's Make a Deal" when a contestant opened Door #2 and got a "Zonkey" (Donkey as a "zonk" prize) to take home. B-) A little over 30 years later, it seems like what is old is new again.
