At the White House, Pres. Bush holds an evening press confer-ence. The President intends to talk about his Social Security reform plan and his energy plan. He is also likely to get questions on other topics such as the John Bolton nomination, Senate filibuster rules on judicial nomina-tions, House ethics rules, etc.

Social security. The math has changed. 40 million retirees now receiving benefits, soon to be more than 72 million receiving benefits. 16 workers per beneficiary, now 3.3, soon 2. SS Heading toward THE RED. Shortfall worse. SS will be bankrupt. FDR did a wonderful thing creating SS. Safety net, dignity, peace of mind, yet there's a hole in the safety net. Seniors and people w/ disabilities will get their checks...

Root causes driving prices up must be addressed. Consumption higher than production. To reduce dependence on foreign oil 4 steps: 1. better use of technology to be better conservers
2. innovative /environmentally senative ways to make good use of our own sources
3. hydrogen, biodeisel
4, help China, India etc use energy more effeiciently diminishing demand for fossil fuels.
Hell with that .. how about making some super sweetheart deals for refinery companies to build more and then there is Iraqi Oil just waiting.
