A MoveOn.org TV ad just aired on CNN's Inside Politics. It sent me to the MoveOn.org web site, where the ad is available for viewing, and where I note that it's named "Radical Rampage."
The focus is on the possible GOP move to deny Dems the right to filibuster judicial nominees. The ad shows a pack of angry elephants rampaging through the streets of Washington, DC, knocking down the pillars of the Supreme Court and doing other damage.
A somber announcer intones about "extremist judges," etc.
In the final scene, the announcer talks about some Senators being willing to stand up to the Republicans. The screen shows a single man standing in the street, courageously holding his hand up before an advancing elephant.
The visual parallel with the famous image of the single man holding his hand up and trying to stop a tank in Tianamen Square during the pro-democracy uprising there was unmistakeable. Of course the Chinese communists eventually quashed the demonstrations violently, killing untold numbers of protestors.
That's right. MoveOn.org is analogizing Republicans to the Butchers of Tianamen Square.
I'm encouraged by your reaction and those of others on the thread. We realize that the leftists are overplaying their hand and that ads like this, while perhaps pumping up their own extreme base, only alienate mainstream Americans.
I'd like to see depicted a scene that parallels the Democrats' attempt to keep Judge Janice Rogers Brown out of a the U.S. Court of Appeals with Lester Maddox wielding a baseball bat to keep blacks out of his restaurant.
Of course we know that won't happen, but I'd say the analogy is at least as apt.
Good for Moveon!!! Overplay that hand as the Left does so often. It has still not sunk in with the Moveon crowd that being extreme to try and paint your opponent as such, is an admission of failure.
Maddox used an ax handle. I have long advocated sending ax handles to each Democrat on the Judiciary committee.
It isn't that they are overplaying their hand, so much, IMHO -- but rather, they are playing perfectly into the hands of the Republicans. I know its been a lot of hardwork within the GOP and WH; but I get so tickled to witness how nimble, agile, and focused upon "chi" energy moves the GOP has become. Truly, and sincerely, it is so danged wonderful to observe. It's the best show playing. And with all the members -- radio, internet. So nearly invisible and deft. As if .. guided, providentially and by Divine Hand.
Did you happen to see the "parade" and rally that Moveon.org organized for the dems today?
They showed a few minutes of it on C-span 2, and the dems, even some HOUSE dems were walking between lines of activists waving signs and screamiing!!!
They were being treated like ROCK STARS---but what is even worse, IMHO, the Senate was in session at the time and so was the House---so these guys are giving each other parades ON OUR DIME!!!!
Perhaps Frist received a spine implant here?
THANK YOU!!!
Thanks also for juxtaposing the two photos - it makes crystal clear that this was an intentional, uh, move, by Move.on.
Great job and thanks again!
I caught what I believe was Sen. Dick Durbin of IL addressing the crowd, and screaming "do you want to trust WALL STREET with your Social Security?"
What an absolute disgrace. Do you think this guy doesn't have plenty socked away in Wall St? Yet he plays the class envy game, conjuring up images of those eveil Monopoly game millionaires in high hats.
Just want to be sure that everyone sees the great job that hole-in-one did of posting a freeze frame of the Move.on ad and juxtaposing it with the famous Tianemen Square image.
You'll see that Move.on replicated Tianemen right down to having the guy standing in a crosswalk with white bars.
The juxtaposed picture is terrific---you should e-mail it to Sean Hannity and see if he will put it on his TV show tomorrow!
Did you see the rally and hear the music and watch them DANCE? OMG---it is like watching the Clinton/Gore conventions with the music and dancing....ugh
Thanks for the great suggestion. I've now sent to Sean and Rush.
And the parallel will be that DEM obstruction likewise won't stand the test of time. Sometimes obstruction is futile.
I do agree though, of course, that the attempt to draw an equivalence is a low blow. The GOP is advocating adherence to a constitutional principle. The communist chinese were asserting violence as a means to hold (communist) control.
The GOP is proposing a rules change. The ChiComs KILLED lots of innocent people! I'd say the comparison is a tad overdone!
I agree. I just didn't use exclamation points.
We have Laz to thank...
:-)
I appreciate the sentiment, but seriously, it was those people who called and faxed and emailed that were responsible for this. I am meaningless, even if well-meaning.
I hear ya.
Seriously, I think the pressure on the Republican Caucus in the Senate is at an unprecedented high right now, thanks to those millions of Americans who understand what is at stake.
This is the whole ballgame, my friend.
