(AP) An unusually late snow storm invaded Michigan on Saturday, with eight to 12 inches expected in the Thumb region by the end of the weekend.
The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Huron County and a winter storm warning for all of southeastern Michigan. The warnings will stay in effect through Sunday, said meteorologist Greg Smith.
As of late Saturday morning, Huron and Saginaw counties had seen from half an inch to an inch of accumulation on grassy surfaces, Smith said.
A storm warning also was issued for northern lower Michigan.
In Detroit, snow was mixed with rain for much of the morning, but Smith said it had changed over to all snow before noon.
The city and surrounding communities were expected to get five to eight inches of snow through Sunday evening. Smith said accumulation would be confined mostly to grassy surfaces until the evening, when there could be snow on the roads as well. Overnight temperatures in Detroit were expected to drop to around 30 degrees.
It was unclear how far west the storm would travel. A winter storm watch was issued for Lansing and Grand Rapids.
LOL
it was snowing this morning in Dayton at Wright Pat too...
my wife got a quick dusting in Springfield, but it has turned back to Rain...
We cancelled a 4-H event at MSU because of the weather.
No kidding. This sucks, last week it was almost 80 degrees and today ... snow?
Now I have to go brush the Global Warming off my car!
No doubt this is directly related to all that warming...NOT
Don't get me wrong, I like living in Michigan, but it's trying sometimes ... first it's like summer, then it's snowing. Can't we just have regular seasons?
We got nothing over here on the west coast of Michigan. Sorry to hear about you easterners... :-)
Thankfully it is snowing outside my window right now. I've been gone for a while & Mrs. 502inf had long list of outdoor "activities" for me--now I can do this, check out who the Lions picks in the draft, and watch the Pistons-76ers game!
85 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.
Snowing on Saturday.
!?!!!??
well if Michigan is getting snow in April, hell hath frozen over again :)
sorry I am an Ohio State fan :)
they are saying 1-2 inches in Springfield tonight....that sucks
It happens sometimes. We got it on the 28th of April in Minneapolis a few years back.
Oh the misery! I live at 8700' in the Rocky Mountains. I get to see it snow sometimes in July or August.
Then again, surrounded by the mountains, snow in the morning, 70 by afternoon is weird but kind of fun.
You guys have fun with it. It's going to be mid-50s today.
I am having a wonderful time today keeping the kitty from eating the patio plants that are sitting in the living room to keep them from freezing.
Nothing personal, my FRiend - but better you than me!!!!!
All kidding aside, sorry about that!
When I was living in Wisconsin we had snow on May 3rd one year. Very depressing.
Are the schools going to announce a snow day? You know, when the teachers will need to just have phone sex with the students.
So, did you have the wonderful experience of that hailstorm this past week?
This is "regular seasons" -- for Michigan. ;-)
