Christian Church May Accept Gay Marriage (The United Church Of Anti-Christ)

CLEVELAND. — The United Church of Christ, a denomination known for its progressive stand on social issues, will consider opposing resolutions on same-sex marriage at its biennial meeting in July, a church official said Friday.

"We take our democratic form of church governance seriously," said the Rev. J. Bennett Guess, spokesman for the Cleveland-based UCC. "This will ensure some heated conversation for our church when we meet in Atlanta."

This is the first time the same-sex marriage issue will be debated at the church's General Synod meeting. The United Church of Christ has a membership of 1.3 million.

The General Synod considers resolutions, but it does not create policy for its nearly 6,000 congregations: UCC churches are autonomous. The UCC's meeting, involving about 3,000 people, is set for July 1-5 in Atlanta.

Guess said that if the delegates support a resolution approving same-sex marriage, it would be the first time a large Christian denomination has done so.

"We take our democratic form of church governance seriously," said the Rev. J. Bennett Guess,

To bad he doesn't take his Bible seriously.

If the Christian church is going to sanction all manner of perversion of God's plan for life, then we no longer need the Church. If it no longer defends God's plan for man, it serves no purpose other than a social club. I can get that satisfaction at my gun club.

These are Congregationalists aren't they? My New England Puritan ancestors are turning over in their graves.

CLEVELAND! How far have you fallen?

The Diocese of Cleveland is making similar decisions regarding homosexuals. People are being paid in crack cocaine to register voters, even if those voters are fictional characters. Unions have negotiated employment out of the city. A recent report states that the population of the city is unemployable.

How could home get any worse?

Hopefully, and prayerfully, the parishioners will have guts enough to take their tithe moneys elsewhere. We left the methodist church several years ago, one of the hardest things we've ever done as a family.

Yup. formed by the merger of Congregational and E&R churches back around 1959 or so. But they were trending feel-goody liberal even then. I grew up in a Congregational Church, and all I remember is the preacher was always quoting Harry Emerson Fosdick instead of Jesus.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the existence of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference. When we visit Boston each year, we attend Park St. church, which is a part of this organization, an evangelical, Bible-believing "off shoot" of the Congregational tradition. As noted on its website, the group's stance is that homosexuality is an abomination to God.

Nice to hear. It seems even the UCC is following true to form, with a large wimpy national apostate mess and a minority of Faithful acting to reform from within. I gotta believe that the UCC is a lost cause, though with its extreme decentralization, congregations such as you note can probably do just fine on their own.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I think instead of trying to change the church they are in, they should just form their own church. Then again, it is the agenda of these people to change religion to suit their needs. The old way was to discard religion, belief in God because the idea of religion and God represents a challenge to those who want power and they cannot have that. I mean who is more powerful? God or Hitler/Stalin? Well, if you are a true believer in God, no matter what Hell Hitler/Stalin will put us there, there is a belief in a higher power that will assure that tomorrow will be better and you will have it much better in the afterlife. Well, as we all know, that has largely failed so they are trying a different tack of molding religion to their own beliefs and ends so they can use it as a vehicle to assure their own control and power over society.

That's their goal. I generally understood the United Church of Christ to me a bit to the left, probably the only ones further out than that are the Quakers and Unitarians. I know the ELCA, I'm a Lutheran, is toying with this issue too and my church is ELCA so I might be facing this same issue too.

Some Congregational churches still preach the Gospel! In Southern California, two especially have been used greatly by the Lord: Pasadena's Lake Avenue Congregational and Sierra Madre Congregational. Being Congregational, they are by definition able to resist the wayward drift of a denomination.

Of course, the obverse is true, too: they have no denominational ties to keep them in check if they stray as a church. Sierra Madre Congregational's pastor in c. 1970 was an atheist! Attendance dwindled, a new church (Bethany) sprang up around the corner, and he left. Lake Avenue sent its youth pastor, who is still there, with 1,200 members. Since then, ministries flowing from SMCC have brought many thousands to Christ.

Fox leftist media bias alert. And some folks claim that Fox is not like the rest of the agenda driven media.

known for its progressive stand on social issues

Anyone who calls leftwingers "progressives" is obviously part of that crowd.

I took our family out of the Methodists' socialist indoctrination a few years ago. It was the best thing we ever did. The Methodist Church is no different than the UCC.

We love our new church because it actually teaches about the bible. Imagine that?

Eggsackly! These sabateurs care little about marriage, civil unions or whatever, and nothing at all about the Community and Faith. They have a deliberate agenda of destroying the institutions themselves, in preparation for totalitarian government. Once having gutted the churches of their meaning, they will move on and leave the hollowed out ruins of the churches to do as they will.

See the churches of Europe, empty but for a few aged babushkas, impotent in civil life, meaningless as institutions, for the future planned by these malignant hate merchants...
